For nearly a decade Ann and I have been competing as a team in Tough Mudder Obstacle Course Races, racking up a combined 25+ classic events and 6 overnight races, all across the Midwest. The courses are based in a philosophy of Team Work, Determination, Mental Grit, and achieving
YOUR Personal Best. We've tried other race series (including a killer 32 mile Spartan Ultra through Breckenridge, Colorado!) but have always been drawn back to Tough Mudder's foundation of cooperation, team work, and "no mudder left behind" credo.
Each TM event is kicked off with a solemn moment of silence for those serving overseas in our Military, and who are training on Obstacle Courses like Tough Mudder....for real life situations. As we run for fun each race we are always thoughtful of the
Service of our Veterans, who fill the ranks of volunteers staffing the course and cheer us through our own personal journey.
The last decade has been a continual lesson in developing our mental and physical resilience. We've surmounted an impressive list of training, in-race, and post-race injuries: heel blisters (with infection!) hernia, knee pain, poison oak/ivy rash, swollen tongue (hydration related), chigger bites galore!, effects of brown recluse spider bites, plantar fasciitis, knee gouges (with more infection!), torn rotator cuffs, ankle sprains, muscular hematoma....and Ann's infamous pants rip\split leading to a major bruised ego!!
On
November 16th, 2019, Ann and I will compete in World's Toughest Mudder in Atlanta. The pinnacle of the OCR sporting world, this event is a grueling 24 hours in duration. The event is designed as a 5 mile off-road circuit with 20+ bad ass obstacles with the task of completing as many loops of the course as possible.
Our goal is
10 complete laps - 50 miles, which with penalty mileage will be over TWO marathons length and 200 obstacles.
To hold ourselves accountable through training and during the race, and more importantly to thank all the veterans that have supported Tough Mudder, competed themselves, and are serving across the world today, we are raising funds for
Team Rubicon.
Team Rubicon (https://teamrubiconusa.org/) is non-profit organization dedicated to putting the unique skill sets of our military veterans back to service through international disaster relief. It's an awesome organization with an incredible track record of supporting those who need urgent help and providing on-going involvement for our veterans. I encourage you to visit their website.
In the spirit of being bold and pushing the boundaries of what is possible, keep this in mind....
When was the last time YOU did something for the first time?!!See you in the mud!
