The ALS Association Texas Chapter

I’m so excited to be running in the upcoming Houston Marathon to honor my scout master Bryan Staley who was sadly diagnosed with ALS 2 years ago. Looking for 100 people to donate ONLY 26$ to raise 2600$ going directly to ALS.  (Just asking for you to sponsor me 1$/mile) Here’s the story…

Bryan saved my life over 40 years ago while camping in a snow & ice storm thawing me by the fire after hypothermia had begun to set in. Growing up without a dad at home, Bryan was much more than a scout master, he was a father figure and mentor to me. Picture above is from one of five Appalachian Trial expeditions where we hiked 500 miles together. Bryan went on to lead 21 expeditions with 35 scouts from ‘77-‘97 and hike 1790 miles of it himself!  I would never be running in a marathon today if it wasn’t for Bryan’s investment and relationship with me over the years.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), sometimes called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rapidly progressing neurological (nervous system) disease that belongs to a group of disorders known as motor neuron diseases.

The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit organization completely dedicated to fighting ALS. I'm raising money for The ALS Association Texas Chapter and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

Saturday, April 17th is the first anniversary of the passing of Turner's and Ford's mother. I wanted to find a way to honor her memory and show the Corbett family that we all are thinking about them. The money we raise will be donated to The ALS Association Texas Chapter in Jennifer Corbett’s name. Any amount will be appreciated. This is a surprise so please don't post the link on social media. I will let Turner know about the donation and who it’s from on Saturday, April 17th. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to the Corbett Family.

ALS is a progressive neurological disease impacting motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. These neurons control voluntary muscles, and people living with ALS experience increasing muscle weakness as a result. 

Approximately 30,000 people in the U.S. are living with ALS. This fall, Kendall's family discovered her father would be one of 5,000 new cases diagnosed each year. And while the road since diagnosis has not been without its challenges, the family has maintained an outward perspective.

Recognizing that others living with the disease often have less resources available, they have requested that holiday giving be dedicated to ALS Association Texas Chapter, an organization focusing on "local care, to support patients who need help now, advocacy, to ensure public policy serves the needs of ALS patients, and research, so that one day nobody will suffer from ALS again."
