"My sister, Madison, was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Isodicentric Syndrome (Dup 15q) when she was one year old. Dup 15q syndrome is one of the most diagnosable forms of Autism. Watching my little sister grow up and face many obstacles was not easy; however, her resilience and strength taught everyone around her the power of love and acceptance. I would not trade any moment I have had with Madison, as I believe she has taught me some of the most important lessons in life. I am lucky to have such an unbreakable bond with someone so special. Dickinson’s Autism Awareness game means so much to me because it involves giving children like Madison the opportunity to thrive and learn. Madison attends the Children’s Therapy Center (CTC) in Fair Lawn, NJ where she is taught the skills and abilities she needs to succeed in the world. The students at CTC are overcoming some of their greatest challenges, whether it is learning how to feed themselves or working their first job. The staff at CTC are making what seemed impossible, possible. I believe every child with Autism deserves the opportunity to receive an education where they can reach their goals and aspirations."

"Growing up with two brothers on the Autistic spectrum provided me with many moments of frustration and confusion. Yet, despite those few instances it really provided me the opportunity to see and feel unconditional love in its truest form. Through my brothers, Ryan and Nolan, I have met some of the most genuine and most caring people who deserve nothing less than to have the same opportunities and gifts in life that everyone else should. Dickinson’s Autism Awareness game, to me, is not just about raising donations and raising awareness; it is about giving back and showing just a fraction of the love and support I have received from my brothers for the past 21 years and will continue to receive every day of my life."

On April 6th the Dickinson College Women’s & Men’s Lacrosse teams, as well as Dickinson’s Baseball team, are celebrating Autism Awareness Day during their games to raise awareness. This year I am donating Teresa's birthday to her school, the CTC Academy.    Teresa has been attending the school since she was only 13 months old, and it has been Teresa's single biggest influence in her growth and development.     The year,  the school is raising funds for the renovation of their Fairlawn Campus.   This is the same campus I brought Teresa to at 13 months and where she continued until she was 8 years old.   The Fairlawn campus is in need of renovations and your help is needed and appreciated.    The earliest of interventions for children with any handicap can make the biggest difference in their growth and development.  The CTC Academy has been serving families like mine, for decades.    Help them to continue to help other children and their families.    The school is a private non for profit school and any contribution is deeply appreciated.   

Teresa will be turning 17 years old on Friday, June 1, 2018 and she has spent almost 16 years at the school where she now attends its high school in Oakland.   I will never forget those early years in Fairlawn where both my child and I  encountered true professionals in the most caring and supportive setting.  These early years for any parent are the most life changing.    I am incredibly grateful to have found this school for my child and count myself as very lucky as many more  of these schools are needed.   The existing schools funding has been cut substantially under the Christie administration last year and your help is needed.  You can visit the school at their website www.ctcacademy.org.   THANK  YOU!
