After more than a year of puzzlingly low COVID-19 cases, Haiti is now experiencing rapid acceleration of the virus . The World Health Organization expressed their concern and Haiti’s Ministry of Public Health and Population echoed the grave warning, particularly with the discovery of the Brazilian and UK variants. The quick onslaught of new cases, particularly in the absence of available vaccines, is threatening the nation’s already limited medical facilities.
Hôpital Sacré Coeur is taking a frontline position as the hospital of hope. Hôpital Sacré Coeur’s exemplary reputation for excellent medical care motivates the stream of patients from around the region. Already on the front lines in the battle against COVID-19, Hôpital Sacré Coeur expects the number of in patients to rise very quickly and has designated 100 – 120 beds for patients with COVID-19. All of these patients are dependent on oxygen administered either by nasal cannulas or CPAP. The hospital’s oxygen generator is running 24 hours a day. Such an intense pace stresses the generator despite careful monitoring.
