Hi, my name is Scott Kirkham and I am asking you to help me save the lives of 32 disadvantaged children here in Vietnam. These children suffer from congenital heart disease. They are in desperate need of lifesaving heart surgery organised by Heartbeat Vietnam, but sadly their families cannot afford the cost to save them. The lifesaving surgery these children need costs $1,200 USD per child, but the families of these children only earn $50 per month, without our help these children will die a slow and painful death and their families will have to helplessly watch.

With your help I want to prevent this from happening. To raise the money required for these 32 children to have surgery, I will cycle 1,600km in 16 days across Vietnam to save these 32 little lives. The ride will take place in September 2016.

My goal is to raise 38,400 USD for the surgery needed for these 32 children, every dollar and cent donated will go directly to these children for the surgery they desperately need. Together, hopefully we can raise more than this amount and save more children as there are hundreds of disadvantaged children here in Vietnam who are in need of this surgery.

If you would like to know more about me, well, I am a simple guy who is a husband, a dad to two healthy young children (thankfully), and I just want to make a difference to help save the lives of some very sick children here in Vietnam.

A lot of times in my life I wonder why things happened the way they did. And many times I cannot connect the dots. They don't make sense. They are unorganised, unfair, unreal. I've been searching for answers scientifically, spiritually, only to find myself in a complete mess. But among the things I cannot explain, I know there must be a reason why my Popcorn comes to this world. The more I go on in this journey, the more I realise that maybe he is here to push me to do the meaningful, to continue to open my heart, to continue giving...

So I have decided to participate in this charity bike ride named Cycle for 16 initiated by a friend of mine - Scott Kirkham (http://gofundme.com/cyclefor16). The campaign aims to raise fund to sponsor 32 little Vietnamese children with congenital heart disease to have surgery. Each surgery is around $1200, a cost that is unimaginable for poor families in rural areas of Vietnam. As a mother of a special need child, I deeply understand how difficult it is to watch your baby on the verge of danger without being able to do anything about it. My goal is to sponsor at least 5 cases, which equals to $6000 in total. And I will be riding 120km (75miles) from Dalat to Nha Trang in September.

Like many others, my work has brought me to Vietnam but whilst living here for the last 3 years I have realised just how lucky we are to come from our developed countries in regards to the healthcare we have available. For so many young families in Vietnam, what would be the most basic or affordable of procedure is just simply not an option due to cost and so I am setting out to make a change for just a few of those people. For that, I need your support! 

In Vietnam, there are many children who suffer from congenital heart disease that are in desperate need of lifesaving heart surgery organised by Heartbeat Vietnam. Sadly their families cannot  afford the cost to save them. The lifesaving surgery these children need costs $1,200 USD per child, but the families of these children often earn as little as $50 per month. Without our help these children will die a slow and painful death and their families will have to helplessly watch.

With your help I want to participate in a fantastic charity initiative called Cycle for 16 which is raising money for these children. It’s a bike ride starting on Friday 1st September in Hanoi and ends in Ho chi Minh 16 days later. I will be participating for 3 days from 9th September from Hue to Kon Tum and cycling over 100km per day. I want to bring awareness and make a significant contribution to this charity and hopefully with your support.

My goal is to raise enough to save the lives of at least two children and for this we need a minimum of 2400 USD for the surgery. Every dollar and cent donated will go directly to these children for the surgery they desperately need. Together, HOPEFULLY WE CAN RAISE MORE THAN THIS AMOUNT AND SAVE MORE CHILDREN as there are many disadvantaged children here in Vietnam who are in need of surgery.
