She blinked her eyes and her whole life flipped. The doctor came in and told her, " You have breast cancer. " Her walls came crashing down. I'm only 33. I'm engaged and raising 6 kids. I just had a baby girl 6 months ago.  This can't happen to us, to me. 

       This is where Stephanie's Methven life changed in May 2019. Our friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. After multiple tests the cancer has called for aggressive action. She is still in the beginning steps of receiving a series of 8 chemo infusions over 16 weeks. We are hoping this combat and kills any cancer cells in her body, as well as, reduces the size of her tumors. Each cycle leaves her bedridden, drained and with symptoms such as neuropathy and diminished brain and body functions that may never go away. The next phase will be a double mastectomy (which will be a difficult, painful and long recovery mentally and physically), six weeks of everyday radiation that will leave her physically exhausted along with other symptoms this brings along, followed by reconstruction surgery. This process will happen most, if not all, of next year. 

       Stephanie has a long and rough road to go, but she has been so strong mentally and emotionally. " I am determined to get through this to watch my children grow up and be here with them through their lives", Stephanie told 
me.  She said, "I will not be defeated by this cancer." Although she is trying to stay positive during this time, this battle comes at the price of Stephanie not being able to work, forcing her family to stretch their finances.

        Due to unforeseen expenses between treatments, surgeries and becoming a one income family, we want nothing more than to help ease her stress by giving her financial peace of mind. On Monday March 12, 2018 Cory Ann Ehlers’ life was taken by the man who promised to love her forever.  This is a tragic loss to her four children, parents, siblings and to everyone she ever met.  She was an active parent at Brooklands Elementary School in Rochester Hills and a long-time staff member at Camp Ticonderoga in Troy. She was an amazing mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend and person.  She sparkled.   

Cory has 4 children, Joshua (23), Jonathan (14), Alyvia (9) and Nathan (8). They are now without parents and have long rough road ahead.  This is something that no child should ever have to deal with.

Cory had an amazing heart, she loved everyone she met and would have given her last dollar to help anyone, even when she had nothing to give.  Her positive attitude and openness allowed her to be instant best friends with everyone she met.  When she hugged you, she really hugged you, a crushing hug that would make you feel loved and accepted, no matter what. 

To quote our family friends John and Paul (Lennon and McCartney); “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”  Cory gave love to everyone, we were all given unconditional love every time we were in her presence.

Her children need our help, they all have a lot of healing to do with the loss of both their parents.  Your donation will go to create a trust for Cory’s children, to help them with this tragic and senseless death of their mother.  Please help us help them.

Tim McCatty passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on April 3, 2018.  He was married to Susie Iaquinta McCatty for almost 25 years.  They started dating at Rochester High School.  Tim was a devoted father, husband, son and friend.  He graciously offered his time, knowledge, and workmanship to help anyone.  He enjoyed working as a carpenter throughout his career with all his uncles, cousins and friends.  He lived in Lapeer, Michigan and Tim worked throughout the Detroit Metro area for over 30 years.  He loved his entire family and always enjoyed being with them. 

This fund will aid to further the education of his two sons, Nathan and Jake, also helping the family through this tough time.  As much as they planned this unexpected loss will be a hardship and a challenge to navigate through.  Nathan is a senior at Davison High School and is planning on attending Hobart Welding School in Ohio this fall.  He enjoys fishing, hunting and working on his truck.  Jake is a sophomore he plans to attend college and study criminal justice while continuing to pursue hockey.  Jake enjoys competing in sports, hunting and spending time with friends.

STEPHEN’S battle with stage 4 Neuroblastoma

Stephen is a four year old boy with stage 4 Neuroblastoma.  In August 2016 his mom noticed a bump on the side of his head.  Doctors couldn’t figure out the cause. A month later, Stephen developed a sudden fever and was rushed to the hospital and given a head CT and chest x-ray.  It was then his family learned the news about Stephen’s stage 4 Neuroblastoma. The following day Stephen was transferred to Children’s Hospital of Detroit. He spent ten days in the PICU. His first two days were spent undergoing two surgeries; one for the biopsy of his lymph node and the other to put in a special line for his chemo. In that time, he had five MRI’s, and a bone marrow biopsy.  He then started his first round of five chemotherapy treatments. Each lasting three to six days just of treatment. Additionally he spent three to seven days in the hospital to recover from the vomiting and other complications. Since the start of this battle, he has been in the ER three times. 

When he is not in the hospital, Stephen needs to see the oncologist twice a week to make sure his blood counts are still good, which usually only amounts to a week and a half at home in between hospital stays.  Stephen underwent a third surgery after his fifth round of chemotherapy to remove the large tumor in his chest.  He had a chest tube put in, and was in the hospital for four days.  Now Stephen is having his first of two bone marrow transplants which will put him in the hospital for a minimum of four weeks.  His immune system will be wiped out completely and restarted with his own stem cells.  He will need to do this a second time within a month.  Following that, they will be traveling out of state for the next step of treatment. Instead of traditional radiations, Stephen will be receiving Proton treatment.  He will be gone for up to four weeks, living out of a hotel and hospital.  Upon returning home, Stephen will need six to eight months of immunotherapy treatment involving more hospital stays.

Stephen is a very strong and special boy. He wants to beat this so that he may pursue his dreams of being either a K9 police officer or a fire fighter.  He wants to help others the way that people have been helping him.  Stephen, along with his parents and seven year old sister, thank you for your kindness, generosity, love, support, and prayers. They can’t do this without you.

On June 25, 2017 our son Matthew was involved in a dirt bike accident while riding at a friend's house- an accident that he didn’t walk away from.  He ended up in the ICU at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital with a displaced L1 vertebrae that completely severed his spinal cord, resulting in paralysis below the waist.  Matt will likely never walk again. His collarbone was fractured, ribs were fractured and he suffered a chest injury (pneumothorax). Matt spent three weeks in the hospital where he had surgery to stabilize his spine and repair the collarbone, he was transferred to the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan for inpatient spinal cord therapy.

Matt has moved in with us (along with his dog, Stogie). We are all adjusting to what is our ‘new normal’ life.

We had a ramp system installed that allows access to our home. There will be many more home modifications in the future to make our home handicap accessible; but for now, Matt is getting around.  At the time of the accident, Matt was without health insurance, and we really have no idea of the total expenses to expect for Matt's hospitalizations, surgery, ongoing medical care, vehicle modifications and lost wages. We are discovering how little we know about the long road ahead -- there is a lot to learn and changes to be made.

What has been most gratifying is Matt's positive attitude as he copes with this life change. He has kept his sense of humor, has worked through many challenges and is looking at this event as a doorway to new beginnings and new opportunities. We are extremely thankful for his attitude and his perseverance. He continues to stay active and workout, anticipating the next phase of rehab.

Collin Rose, 29 year old Wayne State University police officer and K9 Handler, was killed in the line of duty on November 23, 2016.

Rose loved and respected the people in his community and the law he swore to uphold. He was an active member of the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers and of the Metro-Detroit Shutzhund Club.

To honor Officer Rose, Metro-Detroit Shutzhund Club head trainer, John Bochenek, and Police K9 Handler/Master Trainer, Bob Loken, have offered their time, skills and energy to train two police K9s to perform both general Police K9 duties in the name of Officer Rose-- with one specifically in explosives and the other for narcotics.

We are asking for monetary donations to fund this project. Acquiring, maintaining, and training two Police K9s to perform Police K9 duties to keep our community safe and perform specific services comes with a variety of expenses.  In addition to the cost of training which takes between six to 12 months, these care-givers need our help to provide food, medical care, and necessary supplies associated with day-to-day care of the dogs.

The money raised in memory of Officer Rose will help with acquiring, supporting, and the day- to-day caring of these future K9s. Upon completion of their training, the dogs will be donated to worthy Police K9 Handlers, in the name and honor of Officer Collin Rose, a fallen brother, son, and friend.

Julian Kampfschulte is a 7-year-old boy with a big heart and an even bigger smile. He loves drawing, playing pretend, Legos, and video games. He loves playing with and annoying his two sisters, and he really loves his mom and dad. Little Julian should have the rest of his life ahead of him to grow and play. 

     However, his family received a devastating diagnosis—Julian has a rare genetic degenerative brain disease known as Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). The disease ravages his brain.  His symptoms grow worse, including blindness, deafness, seizures, loss of muscle control, and progressive dementia. This relentless downward spiral will lead to permanent disability and death for Julian.  It has already begun to affect his vision and he can no longer hear.  All of this has happened in only a few weeks.

     In the coming months, Julian's family will need a tremendous amount of support. There are day-to-day needs, medical bills, medical equipment to purchase, household needs, loss of work and memories to create. There is no way to know the length of time this little boy will be with his family, and what expenses will accumulate.

     How do you help a family headed on a journey to say goodbye?

      Our goal is to provide them with resources to help keep Julian as comfortable as possible and help the family enjoy and treasure their remaining time together. We are hoping there will be time to arrange a special reunion or vacation, so the family can create memories that they will hold in their hearts forever.  Your donation will bless them along the way and allow them to focus on the time they have left together.
