Equitable Access to Bikes, Repairs, & Maintenance Education
Trips for Kids Charlotte’s mission is to transform lives, communities and landscapes through cycling. By providing equitable access to bicycle education, ownership, and repair, in addition to transformative cycling experiences, we aim to eliminate barriers to utilizing the bicycle as a tool for social change, transportation, recreation, and wellness.
Established in 2000 as a 501c3 non-profit organization, Trips for Kids Charlotte began with the mission to get more kids on bikes. Through our founding Youth Ride Program, we’ve spent the past 24 years inviting youth to engage with nature, explore new skills, and connect with peers during guided mountain bike and greenway rides, helping lay the foundation for a healthy, active lifestyle.
Since our organization’s start, we’ve expanded our core programming to include:
- Youth Earn-a-Bike
- Youth Ride Program
- Free Bike Repair community pop-ups
- Bike Break Down events
- Community Bench Initiative
- Pilot E-Bike Program
- The Charlotte Re-Cyclery (community bike shop program)
- BAR (Bicycle Assembly and Repair) Classes
- Partnership Youth Earn-a-Bike Camps

Together, we’re making monumental strides in shifting the culture to prioritize equitable access to bikes, repairs, and maintenance education…all while centering community building, inclusion, and sustainability through a circular economy.
We still have some growing to do, and we’re asking for your help! Your donation directly supports us getting the tools and materials we need to continue expanding our bike education programs to serve more of our Charlotte community.
Your Donation’s Impact:
- $5 covers a used part to help refurbish a bike
- $15 supports a community members’ flat fix to keep them rolling
- $40 covers the cost of a new fleet helmet for the youth Ride program
- $100 helps fund safety equipment for the Earn-a-Bike program
- $350 supports one local youth through the Earn-a-Bike program
- $500 sponsors one youth Ride program fleet bike
- $1,000 funds one community Free Bike Repair Session
