We are basketball lovers from the northern Virginia area, looking to use our passion for the game to make a difference in the world. 

Donations made to #Ballers4BLM will be donated directly to We The Protesters, Inc in support of Campaign Zero to help end police brutality.

We are Thomas Neece and Nick Seifert from central North Carolina. To meet a challenge and have a grand adventure prior to our senior year in high school, we have been planning to hike 100+ miles of the Appalachian Trail with Thomas's dad Michael this summer. With recent events highlighting racial injustice and inequality, we would like to use this opportunity to hike for a purpose by raising money for Campaign Zero. "Funds donated to Campaign Zero support the analysis of policing practices across the country, research to identify effective solutions to end police violence, technical assistance to organizers leading police accountability campaigns and the development of model legislation and advocacy to end police violence nationwide." We ask that you contribute below to Campaign Zero. Give per mile or give a flat donation. Anything helps.  While on the Appalachian Trail, our family members will post our progress with updates here. For all those per-mile donators, we'll do our best to hit 100 miles and go beyond as far as we can. Thanks for your support! FACEIT has put together a matching pool of $10,000 for Campaign Zero. Every donation made up to $10,000 will be matched dollar for dollar. 


Campaign Zero is a police reform campaign proposed by activists associated with Black Lives Matter. Since its inception, Campaign Zero has collected and proposed policy solutions for police reform in ten areas:

- End Broken Windows Policing: decriminalize crimes that do not threaten public safety, end profiling and stop and frisk policies, and establish alternative approaches to mental health crises.
- Community Oversight: establish effective civilian oversight structures and remove barriers to report police misconduct.
- Limit Use of Force: establish standards and reporting of police use of deadly force, revise local police force policies, end traffic-related police killings and high-speed chases, and monitor how police use force and increase accountability for use of excessive force.
- Independent Investigations and Prosecutions: lower the standard of proof in civil rights cases against police, use federal funds for independent investigations and prosecutions, establish a State Special Prosecutor's Office for police violence cases, and require independent investigations for all police killing or serious injury cases.
- Community Representation: recruit police officers who represent the demographic characteristics of their communities and use community feedback to inform policies.
- Film The Police: require police body cameras and legislate/uphold the right to record police.
- Training: invest in rigorous and sustained training and consider unconscious/implicit bias testing.
- End Policing For Profit: end police department quotas, limit fines and fees for low-income citizens, forbid property seizure, and require police budgets to pay for misconduct fines.
- Demilitarization: end the federal government's 1033 Program to supply military weaponry to local police departments and institute local restrictions to prevent the purchase of military weapons by police.
- Fair Police Contracts: remove barriers to misconduct investigations and civilian oversight, keep officer disciplinary history accessible to police departments and to the public, and ensure financial accountability for officers and police departments that kill or seriously injure civilians.

Since 2015, we’ve built the most comprehensive database of police violence in the nation, used the data to identify effective policy solutions and supported movement organizers to enact these policies at every level of government. This is my boyfriend Randall. On May 30th, he was hit in the head by a rubber bullet shot by a police officer at the Black Lives Matters protest. He spent 3 days in the ICU with a 3-type brain hemorrhage. He was protesting *the MURDER of GEORGE FLOYD* peacefully, and was leaving, when he was hit with the rubber bullet meant for someone the officer was having a verbal altercation with (not that it matters, but for context he was walking by and had not been engaged with any officers).

I want this image burned into your brains. I want your knees to go weak and for you to turn away and for it to make you queasy. This is 6 days after he was hit in the head with a rubber bullet. 6 days after he suffered a “3-type” brain hemorrhage.  This is the fear blacks have to live with every second of every day.

We obviously can’t be there protesting in person with you all, but want to make sure what happened to him has some sort of an impact – not just on his brain. We want to support how we can. And since so many of you asked how you could help, we thought we would take you up on that offer and use Randall’s story to help raise some money.

Randall is lucky, but also privileged, unlike the countless black lives who have been LOST strictly because of their skin color like Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Amadou Diallo, Philando Castile, and Trayvon Martin.

Campaign Zero is an organization that fights to enact data driven polices proven to reduce police violence. They just launched an “8 Can’t Wait” campaign that puts pressure on Mayors to adopt 8 use of force policy changes in their police departments that are proven to decrease police violence by up to 72% and kill a significantly lower amount of people. (See the note at the end of this post for more info on how we choose this…)

What happened to Randall was terrifying but watching this movement and the changes coming from it has been completely overwhelming in the best possible way.  It’s not for nothing. We are being listened too.

 We know it’s a pandemic, and things are REAL rough right now, but if you could spare a few dollars in donating to Campaign Zero, and thus keep Randall actively participating in this revolution while he is recovering from his brain hemorrhage, we would be so beyond grateful – which at this point I didn’t even think was possible.

Thank you guys again for E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. It’s beyond. Our brains may be damaged but our hearts are full! (Couldn’t help myself there..)

Sparked by the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police, cities around the world have taken to the streets to express their outrage at police brutality in America. Being in the US during this period, and witnessing the protests in DC first hand, led me to researching how I could support the Black Lives Matter movement that campaigns against systemic racism.  With that in mind, I've decided to put all of the quarantine training I've been spamming Instagram with in recent months towards a good cause, with a last minute decision to run a half marathon around DC on Saturday 13th June.

After researching a number of charities over the past two weeks, I've decided to fundraise for We The Protesters. We The Protesters is a national organization focused on ending racism and police violence in the United States, with a particular focus on using data to identify effective policy solutions and enact these policies at every level of government. One of the projects that We The Protesters is responsible for is Campaign Zero. Funds donated to Campaign Zero support the analysis of policing practices across the country, research to identify effective solutions to end police violence, technical assistance to organizers leading police accountability campaigns, and the development of model legislation and advocacy to end police violence nationwide.
