Tis the Season of giving to those less fortunate. Rehabilitation is not always a happy ending, but we do it anyway because these animals have nowhere else to turn. Thankfully, the percentage of released animals outweighs the ones that aren’t released.

This year has been an emotionally hard one for us looking back on the many calls on mange in Bobcats and Coyotes in the field that we weren’t able to get to, the Bobcat that was shot multiple times and then hit by a car fracturing his hind leg, The captive bred baby Bobcat wandering on a trail that ended up with a genetic defect where he was having constant seizures.

I guess the sad part other than the obvious is that these are all situations set up by humans,

and these cases are the ones that stick with us long after the animal has passed, and the irony is this is what keeps us moving forward.

On a happy note, we released many Crows, Skunks, Coyotes, and Bobcats we are an organization that will not turn anything away or we will give referrals to specialty organizations and advise on all situations. Our field treatment of Coyotes with mange and outreach partnering with communities, facilities, and homeowners on the treatment of mange in the field is saving so many lives. We also need to make some required enclosure repairs and enlargements.

An essential part of our ecosystem, coyotes play a crucial role in controlling rodent populations, which helps to prevent the spread of disease, protect our crops, and maintain environmental balance.

However, these intelligent animals face a growing threat: mange. This debilitating skin disease is often caused when coyotes eat poisoned mice, rats, and gophers. This weakens their immune systems, making them susceptible to parasitic mites that cause mange. The suffering these coyotes endure is heartbreaking. They lose their fur, shivering in vain attempts to maintain healthy body temperatures in the cold weather, develop painful sores, and slowly starve to death as they become too ill to successfully hunt.

We must act now to help these vital creatures. Our fundraiser aims to provide treatment for local Southern Cal coyotes suffering from mange and raise awareness about the dangers of introducing poisons into the environment by poisoning rodents. Wildlife Care of Southern California is a non-profit wildlife Organization that operates completely on public donations. This Adult Bobcat couldn't have come in at a worse time financially, because we are entering into the baby season the busiest and most expensive season of the year. All year we need to make difficult decisions based on the animal and his injuries, this Bobcat, most likely will not be releasable because of his sight in addition to the fact that he has a FX hind leg, most facilities would euthanize based on his eyesight but his disposition for an adult wild cat we believe is a candidate for placement in a wildlife facility. He had been noticed in the same vicinity for over a few weeks or more, a Bobcat even an injured one is hard to track down they have very large territories. But our team was able with the assistance of others to capture him with a net ... No easy task! So here we are WE NEED HELP with the vet bills this cat has been through a lot we won't know exactly the extent of his injuries until we get him in for his vet appt. We want to give him every chance that we can. So if you want to help please donate what you can !
