My name is Sophie Kaplan, and I lived in Los Angeles, California, for a decade. My grandparents were recently displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires. Firefighters are risking their lives to try to stop these fires, whilst many are homeless themselves due to them. I have been working with the Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association and it’s 118-year-old charity, the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund alongside my school, Suffield Academy, to provide support for those struggling. By donating just a dollar, you can provide new homes, medical supplies, and gear to these firefighters. Everything makes a difference during these times.

The 2025 LA Marathon marks my 8th LA Marathon. I run every year for a charity that is close to home for me as a Los Angeles Firefighter.

But this year, the opportunity for me to be able to run and fundraise has been magnified by the devastating wildfires we experienced at the start of 2025. While battling these fires, several members of the LAFD lost their homes. I'm running once again to fundraise for Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firefighters Fund. This organization is providing support to our members in their time of need.

As devastating wildfires tear through our community, our hearts are with the brave firefighters who are currently risking their lives to protect us. Tragically, some of these firefighters have lost their own homes while battling the flames, and others have already suffered injuries in the line of duty.

The LA Raver and Rave Haven are calling our communities to come together to raise funds for the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund—a charity dedicated to providing essential support to firefighters and their families in times of crisis. For over 118 years, the WODFF has offered financial assistance, counseling, and aid to those who selflessly serve our communities.

Your donation will directly help these courageous individuals as they recover, rebuild, and continue their vital work. Now, more than ever, they need us to stand with them. Whether you contribute $5, $50, or more, every dollar counts in providing relief and hope to those who give so much for us.
