Wonder Dog Rescue

It's my birthday! I'll be 72 on October 3, and celebrating 33 years of rescuing and rehoming dogs. We have a huge project just ahead..... moving our adoptions to Hudson New York.

We can no longer weather the cost of living, veterinary care and rent with a difficult economy. Never did I believe that this would happen. In doing so we are leaving behind many relationships with amazing people: foster folks, shelter staff, amazing vets. We have rescued so many dogs, given love and care to so many, and built bridges with the compassionate people who fostered and adopted these dogs. But we can't do this alone!

The good news is that we WILL continue to rescue California's neediest dogs, and transport them to our Hudson location and will continue to have an office in Sonoma county. We took possession of the kennel in May, 2023 and will be making the *big* move toward the end of October. It's a huge project, and I need help to make it all happen. For my birthday, I am asking for support for this upcoming move. We have a fair amount of equipment to move, and we are currently of donating much of our crate and dog supplies to other rescues. We are also bringing dogs who are currently with us in Sonoma.

We will be housed in a beautiful kennel on 14 acres in Hudson, NY. Dogs have fenced acreage in addition to large kennels and individual runs. Radiant heated floors keep them cozy in cold weather. We have sent pups via Alaska airlines, and hope to also transport dogs via ground transport. And some of the best news of all is that adoptions are robust in the Hudson Valley and neighboring areas. We know that we can make a big difference by getting dogs out of the endless cycle of stray/shelter/euthanasia. This IS one way of making a difference.... and I guarantee you that we will contribute to a better solution.

Sweet & wonderful Edna was abandoned & tied to streetpole, during a rainstorm in Merced. She was bred to an inch of her life and bears many health issues: prolapsed, stretched and distended nipples, breast & mast cell tumors. Enda needs a total mastectomy and lumpectomy which will cost rescue $2000. The vet told us that we need to do this as soon as possible. We've been assured she will make a full recovery, but without surgery Edna's future is grim.

Despite these issues, Edna is seriously  enjoying being in rescue! She's having a blast playing & wrestling with her furry foster friends,  cuddling & kissing her foster parents and just plain happy to be safe, loved and warm. Eight wonderful Boston Terriers just landed in SF. They're getting settled now after a long and harrowing journey. You can read about the case on the blog.

They all arrived in great spirits. Everybody got a break and some food and some comfort. Little Timmy got his first walk around a city block too. These dogs are special. I can't believe how great they all were after such an ordeal.



Now that the dogs are here we need to get all of their basic needs taken care of. We're asking everyone to pitch in a little holiday funds, whatever you can spare for these dogs. Our goal is $2,000. That's $250 per dog for spay, neuter, or anything else they may need.




This fund raising campaign has a strict deadline of Sunday December 29th. All funds raised and donated this year will be matched up to $2,000! Any additional funds raised through this campaign go directly to Wonder Dog to support ongoing operations.

Pistolet has survived huge odds, and now he REALLY needs our help! He was born in January, 2013, with a cleft palate. His foster mom hand fed him from the day he was born.
Cleft palate pups are hard to raise... if any milk is inhaled it can go into the lungs. This can result in Aspirate Pneumonia, which usually kills a young puppy.
Pistolet is 4 months old now! He weighs four pounds, and is eating solid food. He was seen by an Internal Medicine Specialist and an Orthopedic surgeon today at SF Veterinary Specialists. Pistolet's surgery will cost us $4,600 and we NEED to raise this money to save his life!
