Yemen's Humanitarian Crisis
Yemen now enters the 8th year of conflict and instability. Due to the severe consequences of the war, a humanitarian and health crisis has occurred. Around two-thirds of the country needs immediate emergency support and every single day, the situation for 29 million people deteriorates. The United Nations states that, "22.2 million people in Yemen need some kind of humanitarian or protection assistance, an estimated 18 million are food insecure-8.4 million people are severely food insecure and at risk of starvation- 16 million lack access to safe water and sanitation, and 16.4 million lack access to adequate healthcare." Unfortunately, the WFP has recently shared a grim outlook as their funds are cut short, now telling the international community that this fund shortage will impact 13 million Yemenis that depend on WFP for food security programs -- including monthly food baskets.
