Sadaqah Jariyah In Loving Memory of Emal Maiwand (1970–2025)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Emal Maiwand, who returned to his Creator on January 22, 2025, at the age of 55

Emal was a devoted father to his two beloved daughters, who were the pride and joy of his life. A kind and compassionate soul, Emal touched the lives of everyone who knew him with his warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family.

Born in 1970, Emal lived a life marked by resilience, hard work, and dedication to those he held dear.

Through Zakat Foundation of America, we will be donating towards sadaqah jariyah projects with the intention that God will accept these deeds under Emal's name. Sadaqah Jariyah is a concept in Islam that refers to a form of ongoing charity that continues to benefit people and generate rewards for the giver, even after their death. The term "Sadaqah" means charity, while "Jariyah" means continuous or flowing. Therefore, Sadaqah Jariyah can be understood as "continuous charity."

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.” With your generous donations, we will be building a water well and water pump in an impoverished community across the globe. Each time an individual drinks from the water well, cleanses themself for prayers, waters crops to feed their family, or any other beneficial use, Emal receives ongoing rewards! This act of charity not only addresses a critical need but also serves as a perpetual source of blessings and prayers for Emal.

The cost of constructing a water well (minimum 30-year lifespan) through the linked organziation is $3,000.

The cost of constructing a water pump (minimum 10-year lifespan) through Zakat foundation is $500.

We have set a goal of $3,600 to cover GoFundMe's fees.

Legacy of Love: Clean Water in Their Names
I am fundraising on behalf of my friends, Abbas and Elizabeth Hourani, who just lost 11 of their close family members when the residential building they were living in during the war was bombed as they were sleeping on Saturday, November 23rd.

There is nothing that can take away the loss of Abbas's parents, siblings, nieces or nephews. While justice is not possible in a world where Abbas and Elizabeth's daughter will never know her grandparents in Lebanon, honoring the family members who have been lost is something we can do. Sadaqah Jariyah is a way to honor the dead by giving ongoing charity in their names. This fundraiser will result in a clean water well provided for a community in need by the Zakat Foundation of America in the names of:

Each well has a lifespan expected to last at least 30 years and every three years, Zakat Foundation representatives perform a follow-up regarding the state and productivity of the water projects to ensure they are in good working condition. While there is nothing that we can do to ease the pain of the loss of these precious 11 souls, the impact of their legacies will last for years to come through this well.

Hello all,

Our brother Mubeen Kasem's life was cut short at 33 years of age. We all plan to do favorable works for the greater good of humanity once we reach certain goals, or a level of comfort for ourselves and our families.

The reality is, however, many of us do not make it to that stage in life. We plan, and God plans, and God is the best of those who plan. Death was written for Mubeen before he could reach old age and continue to benefit others with his contagious good energy and knowledge. We pray that God forgives his sins and rewards him according to the best of his actions.

This fundraiser is organized by Mubeen's childhood friends to donate towards building a water well on his behalf. This deed is considered "sadaqah jariyah" in Islam. Sadaqah Jariyah is charity that continues to benefit people long-term and continues to earn the giver rewards on their account with God, even after death.

The best form of Sadaqah Jariyah is giving water. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.”

We will be donating all funds to the Zakat Foundation of America to carry out building of a well in an impoverished community. We hope and pray that God accepts this action on behalf of Mubeen as a charity from him, and enters him into eternal paradise with the righteous and pure-hearted.

STAND WITH THE ROHINGYA IN THEIR TIME OF NEED
The Rohingya are a minority population in Burma (Myanmar) that have been enduring severe persecution since 1948. While, for centuries, the Rohingya have called Burma their home, the Burmese government no longer recognizes them as citizens and has allowed them to be living as one of the most oppressed minorities in the world.

Since 2012, several hundred Rohingya have been killed because of their religion and ethnicity in widespread systematic attacks, while their homes and businesses in Burma have been looted and burned. Hundreds of thousands, including women, children, and the elderly have been displaced and forced to live in camps in inhumane living conditions. In addition, thousands have fled the country and many are still stranded at sea with nowhere to go.

Zakat Foundation of America (ZF) is providing food packages to the struggling Rohingya to help ease the pain and misery they face every day. Your generous donation will go a long way in helping to support families in refugee camps in Thailand, India, Indonesia, and Bangladesh.

Meals for Kids with Cancer in Gaza: Ramadan 2022
Be intentional with everything you do this Ramadan, especially your charity. With every good deed that you do, it will be the intention that matters most.

Ensuring kids with cancer get nutritious meals seems obvious, but not in the Gaza Strip. Due to the siege on Gaza and the movement restrictions in place by the current regime, families are often separated and these vulnerable children are left alone for long periods of time, all while battling cancer. With COVID-19 restrictions still in place hospital kitchens are shut down, and with skyrocketing poverty and unemployment the families of these cancer patients need our help and support.

Providing these meals not only ensures they receive nutrition, but helps ease families minds who cannot be there for mealtime or frankly afford nourishing meals.

We are working with partners on the ground to provide these nourishing meals to sick kids at Al-Rantisi Pediatric Specialized Hospital, the only pediatric cancer department in Gaza.
