For Mental Health Awareness Month 2022, GoFundMe is committed to giving back to mental health charities, from locally run community groups, to frontline care services.

This year, support a mental health charity of your choice (must be registered in Australia) and help break the stigma attached to mental health. GoFundMe will make a $50 donation to your fundraiser for your mental health charity, if it’s started after September 1 and before October 31st.  In addition, your fundraiser could also win one of five $1,000 bonus prizes.

For a limited time, GoFundMe will make a $50 donation to fundraisers that are set up to support mental health charities that are started before 31st October, while supplies last.

For the fundraisers that go the extra mile; get the most donations, shares, media attention or involve impressive challenges, 5 will be eligible for prizes of $1,000. These will be judged by the GoFundMe Australia team. 

Here’s how it works: 

  1. Start a GoFundMe for the Australian mental health charity of your choice before October 31st. 
  2. Start fundraising!
  3. The committee will announce the winners on or about November 1st!

How do the Mental Health Awareness Month prizes work?

Eligibility: GoFundMe pages must be set up before October 31 and must be fundraising for an Australian registered charity that works to improve the mental health of Australians.  No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win. Void where prohibited.  

Amount:  $20,000.  Donations and prizes are non-transferable and no substitution will be made except as provided herein at GoFundMe’s sole and absolute discretion.  A charity can win more than one (1) donation or prize, but there is a limit of one (1) donation and/or (1) prize per organiser and/or fundraiser. 

Timing: Prize winners will be notified during October 2022.  Grants will be fulfilled on or about 5/11/2022.

Prize selection: A GoFundMe committee will select winners based on eligibility and predetermined criteria as described in details below. Committee decisions are final and binding on all matters related to the grants.

Give away:  For a limited time, 300 fundraisers published before October 31, 2022 at 11:59pm AWST, will receive a $50 donation from GoFundMe towards their mental health charity. While supplies last.

Skills portion: GoFundMe Australia team will review all eligible fundraisers and determine, in its sole discretion, the five fundraisers it determines to be the most compelling based on the following criteria:

  • Highest number of shares from the page
  • Top donations through the GoFundMe platform
  • Most media attention in number of stories and reach
  • Most compelling story 
  • Quality of expression
  • Originality
  • Impact on your community
  • Most impressive challenge
