CYCLING TO FUND CANADIAN DEMOCRACY
It’s a time of change in our country and the world. At 61 I have decided to get more directly involved.
There are cracks growing in our society. Polarization. Disinformation. Undisguised racism. I want to help our experts have more resources to deal with these threats.
So I will be riding my bike to raise funds for Canadian anti-racism and anti-hate. Together they are bulwarks of democracy. This journey is from Halifax to my hometown of Toronto, about 2,000 km, starting June 27 2022 to about the third week of August (seven weeks or so).
Along the way I’ll be interviewing people respectfully on their thoughts about our country’s democracy. What does it mean to them? How can we strengthen and improve it? Watch for daily clips and updates on my Blog .
Any donation you make to my personal campaign will help pay for my ride. This includes my preparation fees, bike upgrades, food, lodging, airfare and repair costs. I’ll be trying to stay in people’s homes as much as possible, using the sites WarmShowers.org and CouchSurfing.com. If you’re on my route and can offer a night’s rest, I’d be much obliged.
The NonProfits I Am Riding On Behalf Of
Also consider donating directly to the campaign of one or more of the Canadian non-profits I am riding in support of. Funding of those causes goes directly to the chosen organization via GoFundMe.
Mosaic Institute - dismantling prejudice locally and nationally
Canadian Anti-Hate Network - monitoring and countering hate groups
Thank you!

About Me
In reasonable health for my age, but this ride will be a real challenge! On a professional note, I'm a Toronto-based author, speaker and Canadian democracy activist. Until fairly recently I'd been writing about careers and the workplace since mid 90’s. Had a bi-weekly column in Toronto Star early to mid-2000's called Career Activist. Several books published beginning 1997.
Before that a sessional professor of Communications at Ryerson (now Toronto Metropolitan University) for several years. Managed a small government department in Ministry of Education prior. Worked first in the corporate world, marketing, for a dozen years. I hold an MBA from what is now Schulich at York University, and an M.Ed. from UofT's OISE.
I have no affiliation with the nonprofits I am cycling for other than I am fundraising on their behalf. I call my ride DemocraCycle. You can visit my website here.
