Support Derek's ICU Recovery Journey

We are raising money for my amazing brother Derek, who is currenting in the ICU about to have his 64th surgery. His shunt (therefore brain) was exposed and he is at an extreme risk of infection. He has to remain in the ICU for at LEAST a month. Since Derek's case is so severe they can't put the shunt back in for a few weeks.

Derek is a doting husband and father of 3, soon to be 4. He makes the best BBQ around, and always makes sure no one leaves a gathering hungry.

He always has a "Dad Joke" ready to go. But mostly, Derek is one of those guys who will give you the shirt off their back. He puts everyone's needs above his. If you asked anyone to describe Derek in one word it would be Selfless.

When he was 10 weeks old he was in a horrific car crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Shattering his skull and setting the stage for the rest of his life. Derek's life has been one of pain, surgeries, and hospital stays. He never let that get in his way or stop him from doing what he loves. I've never heard him complain. He has endured horrific hardships, but I know this one is one of the toughest.

He values hard work and we know its killing him that he can't work to provide for his family right now. Your support will help cover the immense medical bills, as well as help Derek and his family get by the next few months while he recovers. Update 07-23

Thank you for your prayers. The doctors were able to successfully remove Derek's shunt. They were not able to put in a new one yet, but made do with some external tubing. He is not out of the woods yet but the doctors are very positive. Please continue to pray that he remains infection free.

Update 7/26

The surgeons are going to try to put the shunt back in soon. Derek was excited that he was able to take a short walk outside today. Everyone's prayers have been felt and are being answered. Please continue to pray and share.
