Lauren Fights Heart Failure
Donazione protetta
Dear Family and Friends,
I come to you with a very special request on behalf of my little sister and her family who need our help getting through some unexpected difficult times this holiday season.
My sister, Lauren, is a 30 year old daughter, sister, wife, and mother. She and her husband Doug have five beautiful young children, all under age 10. In September, Lauren was diagnosed with Peripartum Cardiomyopathy. PPCM is a rare complication of pregnancy which occurs in 1 out of 3000 births in the United States. In PPCM, the heart enlarges and becomes unable to pump sufficient blood to support the body, sending the mother in to heart failure. It is the leading cause of maternal death and morbidity. Lauren's heart is currently functioning at about 35%.
This family of seven has found themselves in an unimaginable situation facing a fatal disease and are unable to meet their basic financial responsibilities. Lauren's cardiologists are hopeful she will regain some cardiac function eventually but the road will be long and tedious filled with numerous doctors visits, invasive tests, and hospitalizations. The combination of medications she is on have debilitating side effects like extreme fatigue, dizziness, and low blood pressure which makes it difficult to even shower without rest, much less go to the grocery store or take her kids to the park. In addition, Lauren has also had to forgo her work as a nurse, losing an important source of income for the family.
As you can imagine, the bills and medical costs are escalating. Medical insurance covers many costs but the family is left meeting high deductibles and copays while relying on one income. Please help Lauren and her precious family on her long road to recovery and help ease their financial burden, especially during this holiday season. This comes at an especially hard time with the holidays quickly appoaching and 5 young children.
Donations will go to medical expenses, household bills, meals, and support of their children.
Lastly, as PPCM is largely unheard of to most of us, Lauren would like to spread awareness and share the following link to a support group which has been an unmeasurable tool of support during this journey:
