Big Al's Celebration of Life

Update: We've reached our goal for the Live Stream! Thank you, so much, for all the support. Anything further contributed will be donated to John Howard Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Mental Health Association Kelowna (CMHA Kelowna), and Kelowna's Gospel Mission.
My father, Allan Murray Hill, was known to many as "Big Al." Al passed away peacefully on June 4, 2023, wrapped in a quilt, surrounded by the care and compassion of the Central Okanagan Hospice House in Kelowna, BC. Despite life's challenges, he defied expectations, reaching the joyous age of 69, a remarkable feat for someone who spent almost two decades experiencing chronic homelessness.
We're reaching out to you during this bittersweet time as we prepare a Celebration of Allan's Life, which will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 2:00 pm, in the Family Centre at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. Everyone is welcome. It is a day to commemorate his vibrant spirit, so all are encouraged to wear colorful attire. The more colour, the better :)
As we come together to honor his memory, we want to ensure that everyone who loved Al can be a part of this special day, no matter where they are. That's why we'd like to offer a live stream/video option for those who cannot attend in person.
We'd greatly appreciate your help to make this live stream or video option possible. Contributions will help cover the costs associated with the technician’s time and equipment needed to provide an inclusive experience for anyone who'd like to be a part of my father's celebration of life.
My dad's journey was intricately woven with the lives of those who cared for him, particularly in recent years. In 2020, he found solace and stability in Stephen Village, a supportive housing initiative brought to life through the collaborative efforts of the John Howard Society, BC Housing, and Kelowna's "Journey Home" strategy.
In addition to providing the live stream or video option, we are also committed to using a portion of the funds raised to support organizations that helped my father, and his community. My family would like to give back to organizations such as the John Howard Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Mental Health Association Kelowna (CMHA Kelowna), and Kelowna's Gospel Mission. Contributions will go to further their supportive housing solutions and homelessness prevention initiatives.
We are deeply grateful for your generosity and thoughtfulness during this difficult time. Thank you for your support, for listening to Al's stories and for helping others with their journey home.
My father had this magical ability to light up a room with his infectious laughter, warm heart, and unique outlook on life. We look forward to coming together to celebrate Al's life, uplift one another, and maybe share in some laughter. I know that was Big Al's big wish — to make people laugh and let them find joy.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Carly Greene Hill, Linda Greene and the Hill family.
