Hello, my name is Latifa Demanya. I’m from Denver, CO studying at university. This is my sister Akofa, who attends community college in Los Angeles, CA. Amidst protesting in Los Angeles for the Black Lives Matter movement, my sister Akofa was unlawfully arrested. She wasn’t being violent, she was simply holding an “I Can’t Breathe” sign, marching, and shouting “No justice, no peace” at the headquarters of LAPD. Police officers stormed and barricaded the area, and while Akofa was running from the tear gas they threw, the police shot her with a rubber bullet in her leg. She fell to the ground and was arrested. She didn’t do anything wrong but peacefully protesting. Because I am currently out of the state, Akofa’s friend, Ariel Rivera, will be helping bail her out on my behalf since she also lives in Los Angeles. I’m a broke college student and couldn’t afford the bail, which is why I started the campaign. The money donated will solely be used for her bail and medical expenses. Please help me pay get her safely back home. #BLACKLIVESMATTER #JUSTICEFORFLOYD
