Stephen Earl Bannon, of Slidell, LA and Destin, FL, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home in Slidell on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at 58 years old. Born in New Orleans, LA on Dec. 18, 1955, the third son of the late Edward C. Bannon and Virginia Clair Houston. Graduated from Salmen High School in Slidell, LA in 1973. Devoted husband to Phyllis Ann Kreger for 30 years; beloved father of JoAnna Clair Bannon.
Stephen was a well-respected marine mechanic and commercial fisherman who was rarely seen without his trusty camouflage hat. He was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, equestrianism, camping, motorcycle racing, skiing, and sailing. He took great pleasure teaching children and adults how to hunt and fish, spending winters at Peachburg Plantation in Union Springs, AL as a deer hunting guide. While living in Florida, he was a quintessential Louisianan, hosting crawfish boils, rooting for the Saints, and spreading the gospel of Mardi Gras and king cake. Like his father, he was a gregarious man, striking up conversation with strangers and using his wicked sense of humor to make new friends. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he put his carpentry skills to work, tirelessly volunteering to help others rebuild their homes and delivering supplies to those in need.
He is survived by wife Phyllis Ann Kreger; daughter JoAnna Clair Bannon; brothers David C. and Michael S. Bannon; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward C. Bannon and Virginia Clair Houston.
