Bedford Muslim Cemetery Project: A Summary
The Bedford Muslim Cemetery project aims to serve the local Muslim population of approximately 8,500, providing freehold burial plots for the community, including those who pass away without the means for burial, such as the homeless and the poor. We seek Allah's blessings in fulfilling this compassionate mission.
Set within a beautifully landscaped green garden, the cemetery will feature an environmentally friendly, timber-clad building, rows of burial plots, and a tranquil circular garden with benches, flowers, and tall trees. The design prioritises biodiversity and ecological enhancement, with sustainable planting and an effective drainage system benefiting from the land's natural incline.
Key Benefits
Freehold plots that will remain undisturbed, unlike the current council's 70-year leasehold system.
Superior drainage and water management, with a purpose-designed scheme that ensures minimal risk of water accumulation.
Seven-day-a-week access, allowing for prompt Islamic burials.
Respectful maintenance, free from disturbances caused by dogs or livestock.
A purpose-built cemetery building, offering facilities for the deceased and their families.
Inspired by best practices, following the example of North London's renowned "Gardens of Peace" cemetery.
This project is dedicated to providing a peaceful and dignified resting place for the community while enhancing the local environment.
