Book Publishing: A Journey to Begin in Life

My story is one of adversity overcome with endurance with love. I was born in Ensenada, Mexico in 1963, one of five children in a family of merchants who worked hard to provide a home and get an education for the children. Before the age of one, I suffered a brain injury that I was not expected to survive. These injuries left me with neurological disabilities and learning disorders that hindered my ability to read, write and succeed. It was thought that I would never be self-sufficient.

To my surprise and others',  I overcame these adversities through my mother’s love and by my persistence regardless of my limitations.

I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area permanently in 1978 after having visited the area in the past.

I learned English as a teenager through listening to other people’s speech and reading English and history books at school. Here, I have worked to serve others with disabilities as an advocate and independent living trainer through the Center for Independent Living and the Spanish Speaking Citizens Foundation.

I've written a book, A Journey to Begin in Life, that's a memoir and also provides practical suggestions, support and education for people with disabilities, those who care for them, and the general public.

During all the years I worked providing services to people with disabilities, including as a special education teacher, I learned to believe in people’s capabilities and potential to succeed beyond my reasoning and understanding, regardless of the magnitude of their limitations. My book is a tool to help make that happen.

Your support through this GoFundMe will cover the costs of professional editing, cover design, layout, Spanish translation and publicity. More importantly, your support will allow others with disabilities to learn how they too can persevere and succeed regardless of their limitations according to their potential.

I believe:

Do the Best...Be the Best...And Expect the Best...
