British Moroccan Society Earthquake Appeal
Just before midnight on the 8th of September a tragic earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale hit Morocco with its epicentre in the province of Al Haouz.
The British Moroccan Society (BMS) is launching an urgent appeal for donations to support those in immediate need.
The immediate needs are for water; food, shelter and blankets. That is where we are concentrating our efforts at the moment.
Founded in 1975 the BMS has worked for decades with local associations across Morocco and with a particular focus on the Atlas Mountians in the Al Haouz region around Marrakech.
The BMS is a British Charity, Registered Number 1111703, donations by U.K. tax payers are eligible for Gift Aid.
The BMS had already announced a fundraising Gala Dinner to be held in Casablanca on the 2nd October honouring the centenary of the British Chamber of Commerce for Morocco. This dinner will be a fundraiser for the earthquake appeal.
BMS Chairman Mike Wood commented. “Our thoughts are with those immediately effected by this immense natural disaster, as well as their relatives and friends. As the tragic situation unfolds we are working closely with our partner associations to quickly get funds into the hands of those dealing with the immediate aftermath.”
