Trey's brain cancer is back. This family now faces a critical fourth and final round of treatment, requiring a second brain surgery which is scheduled for August 14, 2023.

Over the last nine years, Trey and Shandy Thompson have been battling Astrocytoma a life-threatening stage three cancer on Trey’s brain stem. Trey has undergone three rounds of treatment with a get-it-done attitude, unwavering determination and community support. Shandy manages his intense care post-recovery along with keeping up with the needs of the house and children, which as all the Moms out there know is an indescribable task. I find it challenging to articulate the emotional ups and downs and the amount of strength that this couple has. Yet they both remain optimistic and continue to give whatever help they can to the people in their lives.

Trey has been an integral part of the Brooks Hospital community, dedicating his time and compassion to helping people with the medical challenges they face.

He is a fun, involved hands-on father, a role model, and a source of inspiration to his two boys; Kasen age 12 and Paxton age 7. As a loving spouse for the last 10 years, he has stood by Shandy, providing unwavering support and endless love.

Our mission is to ensure Trey receives the treatment he needs, and we believe that together as a community, we can ease the financial burden for this sweet family and give him the best chance at recovery. The deductible for the surgery is $13,000. Trey could be out of work for 6 + months during his recovery, leaving the family with a single income. “Many of you guys know the past 9 years have been quite the rollercoaster for our family. Our journey began with the help of our community in September of 2014, with emergency brain surgery and radiation following right after. Since 2014 we have had chemotherapy and a final round of gamma knife radiation that would tap us out on non-invasive treatments. Knowing after this last round of radiation in 2020, if we were informed again that cancer returned surgery would be our only option. On July 21st we were hit with once again with life-changing news; Trey's brain cancer is back for the fourth time....”
