COVID19 Persons with Disability Bangladesh

COVID-19 has an immense adverse health and economic impact on all sections of society including those most marginalized such as people with different types and severity of disabilities, their families and caregivers. Matters such as social distancing become increasingly complex when one may need the assistance of a caregiver. Access to important information is often inaccessible for persons with visual and hearing impairments. While any major lifestyle changes can pose a significant adjustment challenge for those with neuro-developmental / intellectual disabilities and their families. The Bangladesh Business & Disability Network (BBDN) is mobilizing an urgent appeal to provide humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable persons with disabilities across Bangladesh. 

BBDN is a network of Employers, Disability NGOs, Civil Society Organizations and development partners that was founded to facilitate inclusion of people with disabilities in the workforce of Bangladesh. More information about BBDN is available at www.bbdn.com.bd

Murteza Rafi Khan, CEO of BBDN has started this fund raising campaign on behalf of BBDN. The funds collected will be channeled to BBDN's Resource Members which include Disability NGOs that have a wide reach across Bangladesh through Disabled People's Organizations (DPOs) and their own operational footprint. BBDN is working with different partners in different parts of the country and will make a concerted effort to reach people with different types and severity of disabilities.

On behalf of Bangladesh Business & Disability Network I would like to express our sincere heartfelt gratitude to all our generous donors who made it possible to reach out to underprivileged people with disabilities in different parts of Bangladesh. The kind support is much appreciated as people are dealing with Covid-19 during Ramadan and now cyclone Amphan is expected to make landfall imminently. Let's hope the damage is not too severe during these challenging times.

We have already reached over 800 persons with disabilities and their families and are currently on track to reach about 1050 with the current phase. The contributions have come from BBDN, Sadaqa Association as well as local and international individual donors. The distribution has been executed in collaboration with BBDN Member NGOs and partnering Disabled People's Organizations with reach across Bangladesh.
