Empower Kids with Disabilities Through Sign Language
Donation protected
The goal of the project is to increase the students’ language and vocabulary in a fun and engaging manner.
Signing Time is an early learning system, which combines music and sign language to create learning experiences for children of all ages. The majority of the students in my classroom are lacking in language and speech. Signing Time is a series, which provides thirteen episodes centered around themes, such as playtime signings, the zoo train, and time to eat, which are interesting to children.
Along with increasing the students’ vocabulary, I am looking to increase positive behavior in the classroom. Due to the fact that many of my students have delays in speech, they have difficulty expressing what they need or want, which causes frustration. The repetition in Signing Time may help my students learn simple signs to express their feelings or wants. Having a way to express these needs may lead to fewer incidents of tantrums or types of aggression.
Overall, owning a series of the Signing Time episodes would greatly benefit the young students with disabilities in my classroom. It may help lessen the gap in language and vocabulary for the students in my class receiving language therapy and work to improve the behavior of my students.
