Fundraising for Riley Flanagan Medical Needs
Beschermde donatie
Hi, for those of you that know and Love the Flanagan's, Riley is having a very challenging time and I wanted to ask for your assistance if you are able to help support the family it would be great. There are new and ongoing medical needs for Riley. Erin left this summary on Facebook a few days ago to summarize:
I haven’t given an update on Riley in a while, and people are asking so here goes. She’s pretty much the same. Nauseous 24/7. Some days are easier for her than others but the nausea still hasn’t gone away. She has been diagnosed with gastroparesis, dyspepsia, POTS, and brain gut dysfunction. She needs a procedure where they inject Botox into her stomach to relax those muscles but our insurance is not wanting to cover it. We are on our second appeal so fingers crossed that it will happen soon. She is barely eating because when she eats, it makes her so nauseous because her stomach isn’t emptying, another reason why she needs the procedure to relax the stomach muscles. She is also anemic because her body is not absorbing iron. So she was just approved for iron infusions, which begin tomorrow. Hopefully that will help with her extreme fatigue and overall muscle weakness. She used to be so energetic and loved being physical and sports and she is not able to do any of those things. If we do anything physical for long period of time, we have to rent a wheelchair for her. We are at the point where we’re researching to just go ahead and buy one. It has literally changed her whole lifestyle. You already know that she was pulled out of Thomas Worthington high school and is now doing an online program at home. She’s missing out on her freshman year experience. I’m grieving all of these things for her. It breaks our hearts! I hold her while she cries to me that she can’t do it anymore and just wants to be normal again. Continue to think of her or pray for her, whatever it is that you do. I would ask that you don’t send me possible diagnosis. I’ve gone down rabbit holes researching over and over and over and I just need a break. It’s hard dealing with this and trying to balance our life and making it as “normal” as possible, especially for Nash. All of our thoughts and activities revolve around Riley, and what she can do and I feel bad for him as well. So that’s our update in a nutshell. I keep telling myself that hopefully this is just a season, although we were hoping to be done with it by now. It’s been eight months! (Erin Flanagan)
