Help Angie in her Second Fight Against Cancer!
My name is Angie Tate. I am 37 years old, originally from Big Lake, MN and I have called Cornelius, NC home for the past 8 1/2 years. I am the mother of two lovely girls: Brooklyn (15) and Savanna (6), wife to Matt and proud business owner of Tate’s Cleaning Service.
I was first diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2016 with an Invasive Ductal Carcinoma in my right milk ducts, with tumors on the outside of the ducts as well.
I had a double mastectomy followed by 20 weeks of chemotherapy and then 30 consecutive days of radiation. I had clear margins and received the fantastic news that I was cancer free in April of 2017.
My recovery was awesome! I regained my strength (and my hair). I was able to return to playing with my kids, exercising, gardening and operating my cleaning business.
I noticed this past summer that I started experiencing pain in my ribs. I later learned that I had a cracked rib but I was not really sure how I did it.
Looking back, this was my first setback that prevented me from doing a lot of things I enjoyed, tubing behind Grandpa Dan’s boat with my family, working out and even a few days that I couldn’t work. I didn’t think much of it and figured it would get better. I have a physical job and I assumed it was the result of working a lot.
About two weeks before Thanksgiving I noticed that my normal monthly cycle was not ending. After a few weeks, I decided to visit the doctor because I was extremely tired and starting to feel weak. I also thought I had a common chest cold due to heavy wheezing and a tightness in my chest. I was given three rounds of antibiotics and three rounds of steroids. Nothing changed!
My primary doctor ordered a chest X- ray to see what was going on. He was not happy with results and how cloudy things looked so then he ordered a CT scan of chest and figure he would add a Pelvic CT scan to investigate my menstrual cycle was continuing. An endometrial biopsy (uterus) came back negative, thank goodness! The continuous bleeding led to severe anemia and very low red blood cell count. At this point, I was exhausted. I found myself closing my eyes while heading to the next house to clean and trying to work through this situation.
Ultimately, this led to scans on January 13, 2020. The results of the scans showed spots on my bones and numerous spots on my liver and the sad news that my breast cancer had returned in various locations.
I had an appointment with my oncologist on January 29, 2020, followed by a brain and bone scans on January 30th. On February 3rd, I had a liver biopsy (Ouch - that was NOT fun!).
I met with my oncologist on February 10th to review the scan results. It was confirmed that my breast cancer has returned and metastasized to my liver and bones (skull, humerus, femur, spine, pelvis and ribs). My brain scan showed two small spots they will continue to monitor. I will have another brain MRI in one month to see if they have changed.
My lungs have not cleared up and I get winded very quickly. When that happens, I cough a lot which really hurts my ribs. I bring water with me everywhere just so I can hold a conversation without coughing. The doctor mentioned this may also be cancer but the focus seems to be liver and bones for the moment because I didn’t receive a lot of details about my lungs.
I have NOW officially entered my second battle against breast cancer in two years!
*** Here is where YOU come in… I am asking for your help! ***
Matt and I are flying to Boston on February 14 (Happy Valentine’s Day) to meet with an oncologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute .
I am trying to raise money to help with my medical bills, travel expenses and daily family expenses while I (or sometimes both of us) are out of work.
As a small business owner, Matt and I are the only two employees that work in our business. Another side effect of being a small business owner is that we don’t have “corporate” insurance that may offer lower deductibles and better network coverage. We will need to hire additional help to maintain our business, which will also lead to less income.
Please HELP ME as I fight to see my girls grow, graduate, marry and have a family of their own!
