Help Irina through her Breast Cancer Journey

My name is Maria and I am asking you to please join me on a mission to help my friend as she faces the challenges of breast cancer.

For those of you who are not aware, a few days before Christmas our beloved Irina was diagnosed with Stage 2 Grade 3 Her2 triple-positive breast cancer. It is quite an aggressive form of cancer, which requires long and complex treatment.

Irina’s treatment began on the first week of Jan. Every three weeks for the next four months she will be administered with strong chemotherapy along with the targeted anti-cancer drugs. This will be followed by surgery, radiation therapy, and potentially more chemotherapy.

As part of her treatment, Irina has commenced with an anti-cancer drug called pertuzumab, which is unfortunately not covered by the PBS. The cost of the drug is $6,200.

Due to the nature of the treatment Irina has already endured a range of negative side effects. It is challenging for her to work and care for her two children, age five and one. She has no immediate family in Australia and can only rely on her partner and her friends for help.
