Help Mountain Gardens rebuild!

Fifty years ago, Joe Hollis procured a small piece of land beneath the Black Mountains in Western North Carolina. Over that half a century, he and a steady stream of apprentices and neighbors created an incredibly beautiful garden of useful plants. He calls this project Mountain Gardens and there he has cultivated not only plants, but also a way of life. You can read his philosophy in his seminal essay, Paradise Gardening. Through his writing, his videos and especially through direct experience of Mountain Gardens, Joe has influenced and inspired thousands of people.
For at least three decades, the center of human activity within the garden has been a pavilion that contained an outdoor kitchen, a large porch, an enormous library, an herbal apothecary and two greenhouses. This week, a fire devastated the entire pavilion complex. Joe lost a lifetime of amazing books, the extensive herb shop & apothecary, the carefully-maintained seed collection, and many beloved plants, not to mention the garden tools, power tools, herb grinders, and the solar power system. This loss is devastating to Joe, the surrounding community and to all who have been shaped by Mountain Gardens. We are raising money to rebuild the pavilion and to upgrade the infrastructure on the rest of the land so that Mountain Gardens is ready for the next 50 years.
We can celebrate 50 years of Mountain Gardens by helping Joe and his community rebuild, restore and revive the beauty of the structures so that they will complement the beauty of all the surrounding plants. Join us in rebuilding Mountain Gardens.
