Help onze vader in zijn strijd tegen uitgezaaide darmkanker

Lieve vrienden, familie en iedereen die dit leest,

Met pijn in ons hart doen wij, Britt en Romy, een dringende oproep voor onze geliefde vader, Hans.

In december sloeg ons leven in één klap om: onze vader werd gediagnosticeerd met darmkanker, onze grootste nachtmerrie. Niet veel later kregen we het hartverscheurende nieuws dat de kanker was uitgezaaid naar zijn longen, lever en lymfeklieren.

Onze vader is alles voor ons, een man die altijd voor iedereen klaarstaat. Het idee dat we hem misschien veel te vroeg moeten missen, is ondraaglijk. In Nederland kunnen ze hem alleen nog levensverlengende behandelingen bieden van ongeveer 4 maanden, maar geen genezing. Wij kunnen en willen dit niet accepteren, hij verdient een echte kans en daar vechten we keihard voor.

Hoop in Houston

Na intensief onderzoek en gesprekken met andere patiënten, hebben wij hoop gevonden in het Salem Oncology Center in Houston, onder leiding van Dr. Philip Salem. Hij biedt een innovatieve ICT-behandeling (Immunno, Chemo, & Targeted) aan, die al meerdere Nederlandse patiënten heeft geholpen bij genezing. Onze vader is inmiddels al in Houston en is begonnen met de behandeling. Dit was zijn enige keuze, want in Nederland was er geen optie meer. Afgelopen vrijdag kregen we het geweldige nieuws dat de behandeling wél aanslaat. Er is een echte kans dat hij kan genezen!

De behandeling werkt, maar zonder voldoende geld kan hij niet doorgaan. Het idee dat hij terug zou moeten naar Nederland, waar hij uitbehandeld is en geen kans meer heeft, is ondraaglijk. Nu er hoop is, mogen we niet laten gebeuren dat geld het enige obstakel wordt. We doen er alles aan om hem in Houston te houden en zijn behandeling voort te zetten.

Het behandelplan

Bij het Salem Oncology Center kijken ze niet alleen naar de ziekte, maar naar wat hij als persoon nodig heeft. Daarom zal hij in Houston elke dag intensief behandeld worden. Als de ene therapie niet effectief is, is er nog een kans dat de andere twee wel aanslaan. Dit vergroot zijn kans op herstel enorm. Daarnaast beschikt Amerika over medicijnen die in Nederland niet beschikbaar zijn, waardoor hij tijdens de behandelingen minder ziek wordt en de bijwerkingen zoveel mogelijk worden beperkt. Dit betekent dat hij sterker blijft en beter kan vechten tegen deze nare ziekte.

Kosten en verwachtingen

De artsen verwachten dat hij 5 tot 6 maanden behandeling moet ondergaan, wat neerkomt op 5 tot 6 behandelfases. Elke fase kost ongeveer $250.000, wat het totale traject op $1 tot $1,5 miljoen brengt. Een immens bedrag dat we als familie niet alleen kunnen dragen. Maar we zullen er alles aan doen om ervoor te zorgen dat onze vader nog heel lang bij ons kan blijven.

Dear friends, family, and everyone reading this,

With heavy hearts, we, Britt and Romy, make an urgent plea for our beloved father, Hans.

In December, our lives were turned upside down when our father was diagnosed with colon cancer, our worst nightmare. Not long after, we received the heartbreaking news that the cancer had spread to his lungs, liver, and lymph nodes.

Our father means everything to us—a man who is always there for everyone. The thought of losing him too soon is unbearable. In the Netherlands, they could only offer him palliative treatments for about 4 months, but no cure. We cannot and will not accept this; he deserves a real chance, and we are fighting with everything we have to give him that chance.

Hope in Houston

After extensive research and conversations with other patients, we found hope at the Salem Oncology Center in Houston, led by Dr. Philip Salem. He offers an innovative ICT treatment (Immunno, Chemo, & Targeted) that has already helped multiple Dutch patients achieve recovery. Our father is already in Houston and has started his treatment. This was his only choice, as there were no other options in the Netherlands. Last Friday, we received the incredible news that the treatment is working. There is a real chance he could be cured!

The treatment is working, but without enough funds, he cannot continue. The thought of him having to return to the Netherlands, where he is out of options and has no chance left, is unbearable. Now that there is hope, we cannot let money be the only obstacle. We are doing everything we can to keep him in Houston and continue his treatment.

The treatment plan

At the Salem Oncology Center, they don’t just focus on the disease but on what he needs as an individual. That’s why he will be treated intensively every day in Houston. If one therapy isn’t effective, there is still a chance that the other two may work. This greatly increases his chances of recovery. Additionally, the U.S. has medications that are not available in the Netherlands, which will help reduce side effects and make the treatment less harsh on his body. This will help him stay stronger and fight this terrible disease more effectively.

Costs and expectations

The doctors expect that he will need to undergo 5 to 6 months of treatment, which means 5 to 6 treatment phases. Each phase costs approximately $250,000, bringing the total treatment cost to $1 to $1.5 million. This is an immense amount that we, as a family, cannot bear alone. But we will do everything in our power to ensure that our father can stay with us for as long as possible.
