Help Sudanese Doctors Complete their Education in Egypt

Hi, I’m Samah and I’m fundraising for three Ahfad University for Women medical students, Leena, Madarik and Isra. All three are final-year medical school students who have had their education and lives cruelly paused by the war in Sudan. Proceeds from this GoFundMe will be split evenly between all three.

Prior to the outbreak of war in April 2023, all three were nearing the end of their medical school education and eager to begin their careers as doctors, helping and contributing to their communities and the medical field. Yet, they have found themselves displaced or seeking refuge after the outbreak of war. Leena was displaced thrice before making her way to Egypt with her family. Isra and Madarik are also in Egypt.

Fortunately, Ahfad University for Women has formed a partnership with Arab Academy For Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Egypt. This incredible opportunity would allow all three to graduate within the next year.

The costs of attending, and relocating, however, is overwhelming. None of the students would be able to afford the cost of attendance. Madarik’s family members have lost their jobs and her father is unfortunately seriously ill. Similarly, Isra’s family have all lost their sources of income. Leena’s father has had to relocate to Libya where he earns an unsteady income. She also has _ siblings in university. All three came from low-income households prior to the war and their conditions have worsened since.

We are seeking financial sponsorship to enable them to complete their education. This would cost approximately 4,000 USD each, or a total of 12,000 USD (or the equivalent 18200 AUD). The goal for this fundraiser is set at a more realistic 10,000 AUD. The funds would cover the remainder of their tuition fees, stable and safe housing, relocation fees and necessary living expenses to ensure their ability to focus on their education without the burden of financial insecurity.
