Holly's MND story

As many of you may be aware, my daughter in law was sadly diagnosed with the devastating disease Motor Neurones Disease in July 2024. that only 18 months ago took her sister and also her mother 12 years ago.

Holly is a beautiful, loyal and loving woman who's always been there for others in their time of need. She is a selfless devoted mother and her life has always revolved around others and her son.

This diagnosis is an utter shock for her as she, for the first time in her life is unable to help others but is actually needing to ask for help herself which is not something she is used to.

MND has a very short life expectancy and poor prognosis, we are desperately searching for trials and approved therapies to help extend her life. There is no cure for MND and the only drug available is Riluzole which extends life by a mere 3 months.

Durham University Hospital has trialed red light therapy with some success in plateauing the progression of the disease. The type of red light equipment Holly would need costs over £1000 but this maybe her only hope of slowling down the disease at this point in time, so she can be around for her 14 year old son for longer.

My grandson Koby, sadly witnessed family members suffer and pass from Motor Neurones Disease, so he is devastated in knowing what's to come for his mum whom he relies on heavily and is incredibly close to.

The family are in utter despair but also trying to be positive and carry on as normally as possible for her son.

Holly and Koby desperately need to make precious memories with their time together cut short, but finances are tight. Holly, due to her deterioration in mobility has been advised that a cruise holiday with her son is more suitable for her mobility difficulties than a traditional holiday.

However, these holidays are beyond Holly’s affordability, but it will be the only way for the two of them to have a last holiday together to create lasting precious memories.

We are looking to raise money firstly for this specific red light therapy used at Durham University hospital trials for ALS and to also fund a cruise holiday for her family.
