It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Mr. Demsas Tekeste

—a devoted husband, Father of Three, cherished brother, and irreplaceable friend—who lost his courageous fight against brain cancer on Feb 17/2025. Throughout his journey of a year and four months, Demsas Tekeste faced every challenge with unwavering strength, grace, and a heart full of love for his family and friends. His kindness, humour, and resilience touched everyone who knew him, leaving a legacy of warmth and inspiration.

A hardworking Eritrean-Canadian, immigrated to Canada in 1984, he built a life rooted in family, faith, and community. He was a man of deep values who always put others before himself—whether through his unwavering support for his loved ones or his dedication to helping those in need.

My name is Samrawit Mehari and for the past year I have stood by my husband’s side every single day as he bravely fought glioblastoma, an aggressive and unforgiving cancer. My family and I spent countless nights in hospital rooms, witnessing the unimaginable challenges this disease brings—traumatic injuries, heartbreaking setbacks, and moments of hope followed by devastation. Our family has endured so much pain, exhaustion, and hardship, but we held on to each other, just as he always taught us.

While our grief is immeasurable, we are humbly reaching out to ask for support in easing the financial burdens left behind. Demsas’s medical treatments, ongoing care, and final arrangements have placed a significant strain on our family. As we navigate this heartbreaking loss, we hope to alleviate some of the stress so we can focus on healing and honouring his memory.
