Hunter’s Trip to UCLA (Medical Needs)

As most of you are aware, Hunter has been battling Infantile Spasms since he was 5 months old. Hunter has been at Hopkins for the entirety of his treatment in which several different medications and the ketogenic diet have been utilized to try to get his spasms to stop. Unfortunately, there has been no luck in stopping the spasms completely and Kim and Bobby have taken next steps to get other opinions for Hunter’s care.

After reading of a case that seems very similar to Hunter’s, Kim and Bobby have had a teleconference with Dr. Shaun Hussain of UCLA for a second opinion. Dr. Hussain believes that the most likely cause of Hunter’s spasms is a “right-side type 1 focal cortical dysplasia” based on Hunter’s “normal” MRI (done in December), left-sided weakness and asymmetric movements during spasms. The best possible treatment for this would be neurosurgery to remove the portion of the brain causing the spasms. Dr. Hussain would like to get Hunter out to UCLA as soon as humanly possible to do a full surgical evaluation to see if he is a candidate for neurosurgery. If that is the case, Kim, Bobby and Hunter would be staying in CA for Hunter to undergo surgery and recovery.

With that said, Kim and Bobby have ordered the testing with Dr. Hussain at UCLA and have decided to take next steps in getting Hunter the best care possible.

We aim to raise these funds to assist with the medical bills, flight costs, lodging, etc. that needs to be taken into consideration to make this possible for Hunter. Kim and Bobby are tremendous parents and do everything in their power to fight for Hunter and his needs. They don’t ask for anything but prayers and well wishes, but need your assistance in making this huge next step for Hunter. All anyone wants is for Hunter to feel better. We hope this can ease some of their stress in knowing that those who love and care about them can assist in making this happen.
