Irene Polanco & Polanco Family

Donation protected

My name is Sonia and I am a lifelong friend of the Polanco Family. Unfortunately, the Polanco family has been going through a rough time since Renie (more commonly known as Mom to many friends and family) was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. The Polanco Family is dear to my heart and has always been there for me and my family (and I’m sure for many others as well). The Polancos have always opened their home to everyone and now it’s our turn to come together and help them in their time of need.

Here is a little background on Renie.

From a Brooklyn Road Runner to a Griffith Bullpup to a runner-up on the Tower Queen Dance at Griffith Jr. High School, Renie met the love of her life, Lorenzo, in 1966 on the playground of Brooklyn Avenue School in East Los Angeles. As a result of growing up together, they became great friends and this friendship led to a wonderful relationship at Kern Junior High School, now known as Griffith Middle School. Married at the age of 17 and 15, they recently celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary. Lorenzo and Renie have 5 children, Lawrence, Laura, Yvonne, Arlene and Amanda. They also have 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Renie worked at the Edward Roybal Health Center, Los Angeles County University of Southern California, General Hospital, Los Angeles County / University of Southern California Women’s Hospital and Bonnie Beach Clinic where she was employed as a nurse for over 30+ years.

Renie’s greatest joy in life is being a grandmother. She is a football grandma. She spent seven years with the Montebello Indians and three years with the East LA Bulldogs. She has always enjoyed attending San Gabriel Valley Jr All-American cheer competitions and the Pigskin Football Tournament in Las Vegas. As an Athletic Director, Cheer Coordinator for Bassett Olympians Junior All-American Football, Renie and Lorenzo raised their children/grandchildren to be a part of the community. She is also one of the Founders of the Maravilla Huskies Cheer Program.

Renie has always wanted nothing but the best for her grandkids putting them first at whatever they did from football to baseball and even cheer. Her presence attracts so many mothers (and fathers) who gravitated toward her while sitting at the sidelines cheering on her grandkids. She always helps support with fundraising for the Athletic Programs and you can always count on her when needed.

My daughter Jessica and I are setting up this GoFundMe to help this beautiful family get through this rough time. Any help is much appreciated. The Polanco Family now needs our support and we would appreciate any help to get them through this difficult time in their lives.
