Flood Relief for J&B Michel Family
On Thursday August 11th, a historic rain hit Baton Rouge, Louisiana and the surrounding areas dropping over 2 ft. of rain in just 72 hours and 7 Trillion gallons of water over the course of a week. 13 people died as a result of the flooding event. As of Aug. 23rd an estimated 100,000 residents have registered for FEMA. Many of these residents were not in flood zones and therefore did not have flood insurance. Many with flood insurance may not have had additional insurance on the contents of their homes. For those who will receive assistance from FEMA, it will not be nearly enough to cover their losses.
My grandparents, Jerry and Barbara Michel, live in Ascension Parish; one of the many parishes hit hard by flooding. The waters rose high enough in their home that it is almost a total loss of their contents, cabinetry, sheetrock, etc. Imagine throwing away a lifetime of memories, family pictures, kids' artwork, family heirlooms and other special mementos.
My grandparents need funds to assist them with the enourmous cost of replacing and rebuilding what they have spent a lifetime building together. This request will only cover a small portion of that cost. They are currently living in temporary housing with the bare minimum of rental furniture. The family has come together to assist them with the painstaking process of sorting through their contents to salvage what they can and demo the rest. It will be a very long process. We are all pitching in, in various ways, to help them on the ground and from afar.
My Mawmaw & Pawpaw Michel, as I call them, are two of the most selfless people I have ever met. They have spent a lifetime giving more of themselves to everyone they meet in need than anyone I have known. I have seen them unselfishly open their hearts, their homes and their wallets to help so many people in my lifetime without judgment or seeking recognition. They both have the hearts of servants and raised 4 children, Mark, Debra, David and Robert who have carried on that servant's heart in their lives. I see every day the dedication my mom has to serving others and the lives she touches are a direct result of how she was raised by Jerry and Barbara. I know and have seen that same spirit of giving in Mark, David and Robert.
On behalf of all the children and grandchildren of Jerry and Barbara Michel, please consider donating to help us help them rebuild. Thank you Mawmaw & Pawpaw for giving us yourselves and for giving David, Mark, Debra and Robert to us and the rest of the people they have touched! Your legacy has impacted generations to come and now it's our turn to give back to you.
We love you <3
