Team Carmine

In early April Carmine was taken via ambulance to Children's Hospital after discovering excess fluid in his brain. After further tests and scans, doctors quickly discovered that Carmine has two brain tumors, later diagnosed as malignant (cancerous) Germinoma. During his weeklong initial hospital stay, a shunt was placed from his brain to abdomen to drain the Cerebral Spinal Fluid, with additional procedures on the horizon. Although optimistic about his treatment plan, the road ahead is more than any child or parent would sign up to experience!

Carmine will have 4 months of chemotherapy treatments at Children's (he will be in the hospital for a few days at a time each month), followed by radiation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for potentially 4-6 weeks. Surgery may follow - details unfold (and can change) each day as his team learns more and creates an excellent plan.

In addition to his parents Aron and Ashley, Carmine has two wonderful sisters - Mataya is a Senior at Chanhassen High School and heading to University of Kansas in the fall, and Lucca is a 6th grader at East with Carmine. He's a beloved part of both the Chanhassen and Minnesota Renegade baseball teams where he is known for his awesome sense of humor, quick smile, and general easy-going and fun spirit...and some awesome baseball skills (and crazy wild socks) as well! We can't wait to see him recovered and back to his usual best self and playing the sport he loves most!

We know there are limited ways to really "help" this situation outside of showing up to meet some household needs, but we CAN ease the financial strain of unexpected travel for treatments, medical expenses, unpaid time off, etc.
