Update:
Well I am happy to report we have raised some money. I may have set too lofty of a goal, I have never done this and just wanted to act. We are pivoting to change our method of support and will be sending the money contributions directly to the Newport TN Community Center. I am hoping for one more good push and gonna wait till Wednesday and send the first deposit to them. Please share this where you can and be patient with the folks you meet!
Hello Friends near and far. I am Jeffrey Ferrell and I live in Vermont. The last two years our state was ravaged by floods. I have seen first hand what the power of water can destroy in MOMENTS! I was born in Memphis and have spent a lot of time between Eastern TN and Western NC. I also lived in Asheville in 1997. I am in awe and heartbroken by what the folks there and the other people in the path of Helene are experiencing. While my heart aches for them, my desire to help is much stronger! I am currently asking for support to raise funds to fill a U-haul (or the like) with basic supplies ie: Water, tooth paste, toothbrushes, toilet paper and paper towels, formula and diapers, feminine care products, basic first aid supplies, cleaning supplies, buckets (to make kits for handing out and for work) and batteries. I have a family friend who is connected with the Newport TN Community Center. All items will go directly to people in need and the goods we want to bring have a place to land without imposing on the process of recovery. With such widespread destruction there are limited supplies available in the area. That is why a supply truck arriving would be so powerful. My friend Michael Rodgers of St. Johnsbury is willing to make the trip and gather supplies in his region north of us. Michael also has deep roots and family ties to the Tennessee Valley. Some of the funds will go towards the truck rental, fuel (for us and the truck) and our flights back. We have limited personal resources but have lots of love and motivation to help. I have not yet priced out the truck rental but flights home are cheap from Knoxville. We have friends there to stay with and a ride to the airport. I am obviously willing to be completely transparent with our expenditures. Please share in your community as far and wide as you can. Facebook, Instagram or Front porch forum. Please consider helping if you have the capacity.
Discussion about physical donations are possible!
Hopeful for success and grateful for you attention,
Jeffrey Ferrell
