Lahaina Fire Disaster: Ave&Noble Castillo Family

You see and hear about tragedies on the news and social media and you empathize. You think, “how awful it must be,” but you never think it could actually happen to you.
48 hours ago I could only empathize but never imagined my life would be taken away from me like this. If I had one more moment in my home with my family, what would I have done? I would have had watched my dad enjoy one more beer in the comfort of his own home while he listened to his favorite country music or singing Karaoke and bbq on his grill. I would have praised my moms hard work as she finished a day of gardening. Her garden meant everything to her. I would had cherish her smile one last time, as she walked through her garden after a stressful day of work. I would have encouraged my dad to paint the porch, that he was working so hard to finish. I would have taken a longer look at the photos of my grandparents and reminisced on my childhood. I would have scanned the room and taken in the memories and love that was built in that home. OUR home.
The reality of losing everything hasn’t settled in yet. My heart is completely broken and I feel an overwhelming amount of sadness and grief. Every text and every phone call feels like a nightmare I have to retell. I am mourning a loss of memories. My favorite memories.
I am grateful for the love I have received and know that I have to be okay and fix this for my parents. I can cope and deal with the pain but I can’t bare seeing my parents look hopeless, numb and broken-hearted . We lost our home and everything in it. Including a couple of pets. For my parents, I will rebuild. For my parents, I will be okay. My name is Vanessa Castillo, I am 1 of 3 children. I am the daughter of Ave and Noble Castillo. I have 2 brothers, Symere and JR. We live in Lahaina, specifically in the Wahikuli neighborhood, on Kahoma street.
We are fundraising for $400,000 that will help go towards material to rebuild our new home and all other essentials; Along with clothing, furniture, and basic home appliances, etc. We are hoping to get our life back together soon. I appreciate all of you and your generosity and thank you for your support.
My family and I am forever grateful. ❤️
