Honoring Larry F. Wilson

Donation protected
We are a group of citizens of Rigby who feel it's time that Larry Wilson,   a Rigby High School Graduate, be honored for not only his prowess on the football field but moreover his character and leadership skills off  the field. Larry played football for Rigby High School. After graduating he played at the University of Utah where he set records and was a stand out. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and played for them for 13 years. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1978. He was the innovator of the safety blitz, and caught the attention of every NFL quarterback he played against. After his retirement from playing in 1972, he was in an executive position with the Cardinals for 40 years. He retired in 2002.  Sadly, Larry passed away  Sept. 2020.

Larry was a humble man, from humble beginnings who never forgot where he came from.  Larry was born and raised in Rigby. He graduated from RHS in 1956. He was not only an outstanding athlete, receiving 16  letters while at Rigby, but he was a good student as well.  Because of his leadership skills, his kind, gentle demeanor, his tenacity, and his perseverance, it's time he be introduced to  Rigby High School students as an inspiration and mentor.  We want to honor Larry for not only his phenomenal athletic abilities and outstanding character, but his contributions to the community, including helping build the little league baseball program here in Rigby and outfitting the football team with uniforms and equipment.

We are raising funds to build a beautiful monument to be placed on the RHS campus.  The monument will have a bronze relief of Larry, an inspirational quote from him, and his NFL statistics.  The funds will be used to build the monument and fund other items which may include, but are not limited to : an annual Larry Wilson leadership scholarship,  an annual Larry Wilson award,  reinstating the retirement of Larry's #7 high school number, and a Larry Wilson Day at the high school.

We appreciate your contributions to this worthy project.  Every dollar counts! In this day of self aggrandized celebrities and athletes, let's give the students at RHS someone of substance to look up to and emulate.
