Lingon's Emergency Vet and Palliative Care for Cancer

Hi everyone,

This is Alex, Isabella's sister reaching out to Lingon's extended community for support at this difficult time to help Bella and Lingon on their unexpected journey through his recent cancer diagnosis.

On Saturday, November 24th, Isabella's beautiful boy Lingon was admitted to urgent care initially because of what was thought to be stomach issues. After examination, the urgent care team determined that there was fluid in Lingon’s stomach, lungs, and around his heart. Specifically, the fluid around his heart determined that with such sad and unexpected news, Lingon is critically ill with cancer and that he has little time left earthside.

Isabella was left with the impossible decision to either euthanize him at that moment or choose an expensive procedure that would drain the fluid from around his heart and in his stomach to save his life at that critical time. The procedure was successful, however, determined that the cancer was terminal and eventually, fluid would continue to fill up around his heart. Further diagnostics and continued treatment would have cost upwards of 10k and maybe only given him a few more months of life.

The urgent care team with Lingon was amazing and they completed a procedure successfully that drained the fluid from around his heart. He is now on medication that will slow the bleeding around his heart and help with the pain. Bella and Lingon are currently in Sooke with me, our parents, and our extended family. They will be traveling to Halfmoon Bay tomorrow to live out his life in the palliative care of Bella and our family until he is ready to say goodbye.

To know Bella is to love her for her deep care for community. She is a fierce believer in community organizing and has always been the first to step up and help someone in need, be it for a friend, a neighbour, a cause she believes in. She demonstrated this through her music and activism at various levels of creating community change. I am calling on Isabella and Lingon's extended community of family and friends to help ease the financial burden of this sudden and tragic news so that Bella can continue to focus on caring for Lingon in his final days.

This unexpected emergency vet visit and palliative cancer care have been financially challenging, as the current cost in vet bills alone is approximately $6,000. This fundraiser will help pay for the critical emergency vet visit that provided a lifesaving procedure for Lingon, the cost of required medication, and support for his palliative care in his final weeks.

We thank everyone for loving Lingon and for your thoughts and prayers for our beautiful golden boy. He has changed all our lives for the better, and we are so grateful he has been such an essential part of our family, and the love of Bella's life.
