Mason Werny

Hello, my name is Lisa Werny and I am starting a Go Fund Me for my son Mason. Mason will have a craniotomy on May 22nd, two days before his 28th birthday, at PENN to treat a Cavernomas Malformation.
Mason was diagnosed with a right frontal Cavernoma, a brain malformation that has developed over time and caused him many years of agony. At 16, he began to decline in school and started to exhibit symptoms of depression, headaches, and a lack of interest in anything. His symptoms started to increase, including worsening headaches, extreme difficulty sleeping, and extreme depression. He attended college but had to drop out as he was unable to manage the social and academic requirements. In 2017, Mason fell and hit his head, which led to an ER visit, his first known seizure, and a diagnosis of Epilepsy. It wasn’t until a subsequent MRI that the Cavernoma was identified. It was then that we realized these seizures had been occurring for many years and explained a lot of his symptoms.
The last six years have been rough for Mason as he has been in and out of psychiatric wards, emergency rooms, has had seizures, hallucinations, episodes of psychosis, and has been under the care of a neurosurgeon, seizure doctor, and psychiatrist. To control his symptoms, he has been heavily medicated to the point where he is unable to drive, work, have friendships or relationships, or enjoy any meaningful quality of life.
With this surgery and a new Neurology team, he will have a chance to live a more normal life. He will need care, time to heal, and extensive cognitive rehabilitation. I am so hopeful that my son will be able to have a second chance at life.
This will involve significant medical costs. As a single mom with a small yoga studio that will have to be scaled back significantly so I can care for my son, these costs are overwhelming. I am using this platform to help fundraise so he can receive the best care possible and make a swift recovery.
Your donations will directly support Mason’s surgery, recovery, and care. I am so grateful for any support and welcome anyone to give what they can.
Mason and I want to thank you all for your love, support, and prayers.
Thank you and God bless!
