#MMIW "Sisters" Music Video Project

The issue of murdered and missing women is a serious crisis in Canada. With an estimated 1200 women and counting who have been murdered or disappeared without a trace – the time to act is now!

We invite you to join our GoFundMe Campaign to support a powerful and innovative project that will draw much needed attention on this very serious issue.

The Project:
5 x Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Award Nominee JB the 1st Lady and Native American Music Award Nominee Chief Rock’s latest release “Sisters” is a soulful and powerful collaboration paying tribute to the missing and murdered women in a way that’s never been done before.  Showcased on the latest album “Hitting the Trail” together they are Entertribal.

“Sisters” tells of the frustrations of families of those that we’ve lost and also exposing some of the underlying issues that Indigenous women and girls face on a daily basis.

The project will also feature “Butterflies in Spirit” a dance troupe started in 2012 by Lorelei Williams. Their mission is to raise awareness of violence against Aboriginal Women and Girls and the Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women and Girls across Canada. Lorelei Williams created this dance troupe to commemorate the female victims of violence in Vancouver and across Canada. Starting with the image of her missing Aunt, Belinda Williams, and then her murdered cousin, Tanya Holyk, the images of these and other missing and murdered women are highlighted. Worn on t-shirts in performance, the dancers pay respect to the victims in the hopes of instigating awareness for these issues.

We are shooting a music video to combine these two unique forms of expression.

Our goal is to shoot the 5 - minute music video across Canada to showcase the epidemic that is hitting every major city and small town across the country.

By shooting some of the scenes on the gritty streets of the downtown eastside it’s the goal of the team to show realistic scenarios of how easily women can go missing or be murdered.

By performing at various events and showcases the Sisters/Butterflies Music Video will not only raise awareness but will also aim to raise money to support community healing initiatives for those dealing with the aftermath of these tragedies.
