Help Tom recover from his motorcycle accident
Tom was involved in a hit and run accident while out riding the afternoon of Tuesday, May 21st. The ride was supposed to be a much-needed session of wind therapy. After watching a rocket launch, Tom headed out with fellow bikers for perhaps his favorite loop - Route 520 to Nova Road to Deer Park to Route 192 and then home for dinner. Tom was last in line as he preferred to hang back and have a smoke now and again along the ride. Unknowing to Tom, he would never make it to Nova Road as a passing car ran into Tom forcing him off the road. The driver never stopped as Tom lie broken and bleeding on the side of the road. Route 520 was shut down as the many good samaritans, sheriffs, and rescue personnel quickly stabilized Tom for a helicopter ambulance flight to the Level 1 Trauma Unit at Orlando Medical Center. In a miracle, Tom has survived the crash but not without severe injuries including a gruesome laceration to his head, compound fracture of his left arm, and multiple fractures of his pelvis along with countless bruises and lacerations. On Wednesday, Tom underwent extensive Surgery to repair his broken body. After several hours on the operating table, Tom returned to the ICU with a patchwork of metal plates and numerous screws holding his broken bones together. The Surgeon said the operations could not have gone better. While great news, the reality that Tom will be incapacitated for many, many months is hard to comprehend. As a result, Tom will be needing a lot of support. He has weeks ahead in the hospital after which he will be moved to a long-term care facility where he will spend months healing and learning how to walk again. It is estimated that he will be unable to work for perhaps a year. How scared he must be! In addition to the countless prayers we will all be saying, any donations to his recuperation fund will be greatly appreciated. All who know Tom are drawn to his sense of humor and compassion for his many friends. Please help if you are able. God Bless!
