Ombenis Chicken Farm
Beschermde donatie
Dear friends around the world,
My name is Ombeni Joseph Kiriama and I live in Arusha, Tanzania. I use to be a driver and safari guide and during the past seven years I mainly brought visitors from all around the world to our beautiful natural reserves, conservation areas and parks. I love the nature of our country and it always brings me joy if I can show it to others. But since Covid19, tourism came almost to a complete end. That also means, that I basically lost 90% of my job and cannot earn enough income anymore to buy sufficient food and other goods for daily living for my family and me. My parents also depend mostly on me and my capacity to earn money and currently we are trying to safe some money to send my brother to school.
The last months were hard, as you can imagine. I did as many part time jobs as I could get, but it is not enough to ensure a fully nutrition of my parents and brother. But then I found hope in a plan, that I thought about and worked on for the last weeks: I will set up a small-scale poultry farm on a piece of land that I own, and supply the local market with eggs and chicken meat. This business is less dependent on tourism, the local demand for eggs and chicken is high in the area of Arusha, where I live. And from my job as a driver and guide, I know many chefs and owners of hotels, accommodations and restaurants. That means, as soon as the Covid19 crisis hopefully is over one day, and I have my chicken farm running, I would even have more chances to sell. Another advantage is: I could supply my own family directly with valuable eggs, especially during bad times like these.
European friends who came here as visitors in the past and who still are in contact with me, helped me to make this plan, get in contact with experts in poultry farming and to set-up this funding campaign. I now need your support to make it come true. As the small savings that I had are gone through the last months, I do not have any capital to get a credit or buy the animals and the equipment that is necessary. I made a calculation on what I need to start a small farm with 250 chicken:
Building a shed with enough space (around 10x15m): 1500 $
Update: I gratefully received first donations. Based on the amount I decided to go for a small shed for the start. I have to get started and hope you understand, that I cannot wait too long. But in case I will reach more donations, I will easily make the shed larger.
Buying little chickens: 800$
Buying chicken feed for 6 months: 1000 $
Medicine and nutritional equipment: 400$
Electricity equipment for lighting: 100$
This is a total of 3800$ which translates to around 3200€
I know that many people face very difficult times during this worldwide pandemic. I still hope that some people find a small amount of money that they can contribute to my project to become a chicken farmer and be able to care for my family.
Thank you all a lot and stay healthy!
