Gathering no. 14 – Sept. 2019

Gathering no. 1 – June 2017:

Dear Friends —

Two years ago, I began dreaming of ways to connect people who share a love of poetry and a hunger for transcendence. After many conversations, I started re-imagining ways of organizing poetry events in away that felt less passive, mechanical and transactional — and more meaningful and intentional.

The result has been LOGOS Poetry Collective. Each month, a growing community of like-souled people gather at Lazarus Brewing Co. in east Austin. We share poetry, good food and libations — and meaningful conversation about mystery, meaning, language, the sacred & Imagination.

At our monthly poetry "Gatherings," two poets share their poetry within a 'ritualized' framework. At different "workshops," folks have a change to gain generous-spirited feedback on their work, and grow deeper in community. LOGOS can be described as "poetry-church" or "liturgical art-share." Whatever it is, it feels not only meaningful and inspiring, but is also a lot of fun.

At present, it costs approximately $1,000 (honoraria for the presenting artists, hospitality and venue space at Lazarus, promo and admin costs) for us to "operate" each month. We have been very fortunate to grants from the Permanent Endowment Fund of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Austin, TX, and the Strategic Mission Grant Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, to launch this project.

For this work to continue, we need your help. For this community to flourish, and continuing providing a space for "evoking transcendence through poetry, community and conversation" (the LOGOS Mission), it needs to become self-sustaining. I would love to see members of this community support it with not only their time and energy, but also with the financial resources they are able to contribute. If you are able, please consider making a financial gift to LOGOS.

With your contribution, we will be able to support the amazing artists who share their art and vision with us. We will be able to continue gathering at Lazarus, where we have a chance to connect with artists and seekers who call East Austin home. With your support, we will be able to continue gathering in a way that feels not only spirited, but also spiritual – not only valuable, but also beautiful to behold.

I thank you for considering making a financial contribution to LOGOS — and for helping us to continue in this work of (re)dis-covering the Word (logos) within the words.

All blessings & good wishes,

Travis
