The Halls Lake community faces an unprecedented threat that could ripple through all of Algonquin Highlands and have far-reaching consequences down the Trent Waterway system. A rezoning application on Halls Lake aims to change the zoning from a shoreline residential (SR2) to a rural designation (RU).
An RU designation would allow many non-residential uses, including a hobby farm with pigs and chickens, as well as numerous commercial and industrial uses.
Approval of rezoning here may set a dangerous precedent that could open the door for similar developments on every lake in Algonquin Highlands. If approved, it will threaten the very future of our entire lake system.
We are raising funds to hire consultants, independent reviewers and for legal advice. Any remaining funds will be used by the Lake Associations for water quality testing.
