Rick Kahle … The Bionic Man

It’s not quite time to bring Rick home from his back surgery … but to keep him in the Rehab Center is going to cost us an arm and a leg … and a back. We need your help! We covet your help!

His back surgery was supposed to be performed in two separate surgeries. Due to an unforeseen medical emergency (someone else’s), surgery #2 was interrupted to save a life. How could we argue with that? So … a 3rd surgery had to be scheduled. 

However, complications arose from that interrupted surgery, causing an extended stay in the ICU. The 3rd surgery then turned into a seven-hour surgery to make repairs on the 2nd surgery and also to finish the back surgery. And then back to the ICU for two weeks. The surgeries were successful, but there was no Physical Therapy (which was desperately needed) in ICU. This, right there, set Rick back for weeks.

He was denied admission to the rehab center he was intending to go to (three times!) and wound up in a skilled nursing facility that was better suited to him. But 18 days in, his insurance tried to kick him out.

We appealed, we won, but we are now faced with a copay that we cannot afford.

I’m attaching a video (and some photos) that shows where he’s at and why he can’t come home yet. We simply don’t have the setup at home. No flying machine, no physical therapy, no occupational therapy, and no speech therapy, all of which Rick must have. And I’m recently retired, so the funds just do not exist.

Rick is a trooper. He is working as hard as he can to recover, knowing he’s still facing a 1 - 2 year recovery period. He knows he can do it, though.

We just simply need some help.
