In memory of Samir Olyad Suleiman Ali

On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, our dear Samir Olyad Suleiman Ali (18 years old) and his friend Yasbirat Ytatek were tragically killed in a car accident returning home from a soccer game in New Westminster, BC. Read the news story here. Samir was a beloved member of his community in East Vancouver and the eldest son of a family who, as refugees, immigrated to Canada 5 years ago. He had recently graduated from high school and received a full scholarship to the UBC Kinesiology program to start in the fall. Watch his application video for the Beedie Scholarship below:

Samir was known by all as compassionate, friendly, bright and wise beyond his years. He regularly volunteered in his community, and most important to him in his life were his faith and the work he did with children. If you cannot donate, his family would appreciate you keeping him in your prayers. He is the eldest of 9 kids and was a loving and reliable caretaker to his younger siblings.

Friends of Samir and his family organized this GoFundMe. We are raising money for Samir's family to help manage expenses, including legal fees and help them in any way we can.
